Averie: I know morphine is probably stabilizing you but that's a serious...
She looked at Aubrey who was staring back at her for a response.
Averie: Declaration?
Averie had a serious anxiety about love. It was so overrated and so cliche. She was totally against it. Unlike Aubrey, who was all for it. He was serious about love, family and his career and Averie could help him with all of that.
[Flashback to when she first walked in]
Averie: I can actually help you affectively rehab your knee.
Aubrey: Really?
Averie: Yeah. It wouldn't be much of a task. I'll go slow.
She winked at him.
[Now]
Aubrey looked at Averie.
Aubrey: Look, I understand this lifestyle can be intimidating but-
Averie: I'm not intimidated by some gossip blogs and some cameras.
Aubrey: So what's the problem?
The truth was that she wanted Aubrey to be serious about her, but she didn't think that he would be serious this fast and she didn't think it would blind side her this much. Their whole set up was supposed to be nothing risky. Like love. It was too much pressure. Too much commitment. Too much of a big deal when life was basically a free ride for them.
[Flashback]
Aubrey: I feel like we should slow things down. Like keep if with no strings attached.
Averie gave Aubrey an uneasy look. She shrugged her shoulders.
Averie: Eh. Ok. Fine.
She walked over to Aubrey and put her hands on his shoulders.
Averie: Are there any conditions to this whole "no strings attached" thing?
Aubrey shook his head and Averie kissed him. She was perfectly fine with no strings attached because she knew that Aubrey probably wouldn't want to commit with something as huge as a rap career pending. She wasn't looking to be a trophy wife or a prized girlfriend. She just wanted to be Averie. She didn't wanna be defined as an attachment to Aubrey. But in all reality, she wasn't really sure of who she was. She was trying to be someone else and just disguised it as her with really fashionable clothes.
[Now]
But somewhere along that road, Averie did want something more and along with her Aubrey did as well. Their periods of indecisiveness didn't last so long but Aubrey wanted an answer from Averie right now. But she sat there.
Aubrey: You know what? Nevermind. I don't care anymore.
Averie: Aubrey don't-
Aubrey: I'm tired.
Averie: Aubr-
Aubrey: I'll call you.
Averie looked at Aubrey who was looking over at the TV in his hospital room. She gave it another 90 seconds then grabbed her jacket and walked out of the room. She felt so stupid.
Mazin walked in after she stormed out practically in tears.
Mazin: Yo, what happened?
Aubrey: You wanna know the truth?
Mazin shook his head.
Aubrey: Don't worry about it.
The next day, Aubrey was on crutches and prepared to go home. He was setting himself up on his crutches when Averie walked into his hospital room. She stood in good posture and smiled at him. Aubrey stood up with an annoyed face.
Aubrey: What are you doing here?
Averie: I told you I could help you rehabilitate your knee and I'm here to start day one.
Aubrey: No. You're good. I'll figure something out myself.
Aubrey started to move around but lost his footing and fell. But Averie was able to catch him.
Averie (Holding him): Now will you let me help you?
Averie took Aubrey back to his condo and propped him up on his couch, rewrapped his knee and elevated it. She put a bag of ice on his knee and stood in front of him.
Averie: Ok. For the first few days, you can't move it. You have to stabilize your knee.
Aubrey was still typing away at his Blackberry.
Averie: Maybe in a week we can start moving it or at least when the swelling goes down.
He still ignored her. Averie got mad and snatched Aubrey's phone. He reached to get it but she stepped back.
Aubrey: Averie, give me the phone back.
Averie: No. Stop throwing this silent temper tantrum and talk to me. You want me. Tell me how you feel.
Averie sat beside Aubrey and before he could reach for his phone, she put it in her shirt. Aubrey couldn't move away because his leg was very much in pain and he wasn't supposed to move.
Aubrey: I'm not trying to slow down when it comes to rapping. I'm good at this. I like this. I love this. This is all I ever wanted.
Averie shook her head.
Aubrey: You know how I feel about love and being with people. You know the relationships I've been in. You not saying ANYTHING is the biggest rejection. That's actually never happened to me before.
Averie: I'm sorry.
Aubrey: Are you really? I mean I admire your strong demeanor but sometimes you just come off cold.
Averie: That's not true. What have we been doing for the past few months. I didn't want a relationship with you because I thought that's what you wanted. We're 22. What the hell are we to do with love when we have Toronto in the palm of our hands.
Aubrey: I have that. But I don't have you. I don't feel like I have you.
Averie: Well you do. Because I love you. I'm in love with you and I care about you. I wouldn't be here if I didn't care about you.
Aubrey felt like she didn't understand where he was coming from. But this was all new to Averie. Before he was all about the fast life but now he was getting more serious. He was buckling down. And now he felt like all of this was making Averie nervous. But he had the slight hope that she'd come around. They sat in silence then Averie spoke up.
Averie: Your mom likes me.
Aubrey shook his head.
Averie: I love you.
It still didn't feel sincere to Aubrey. He appreciated her effort but he didn't feel like him and Averie were on the same page when it came to their feelings for each other. He didn't feel like she was capable of saying something like that and meaning it. But maybe this was his trust issues getting to him. Or maybe this was just brand new for him. For both of them. And he went from almost ignoring her to putting her on a pedal stool. Maybe it was his fault. Maybe they were moving too fast. Maybe this was just the motion.
