Averie woke up beside Aubrey. He was sound asleep in her Toronto loft. It annoyed her that he could get with her with his immature tactics (that she could see through) with no commitment. She wanted him to grow up. He needed maturity to be with her but it was looking to be that he didn't need much but a winning smile and a mid sentence kiss. Averie strongly nudged Aubrey and woke him up.
Aubrey (Sleepily): What?
Averie: Get up!
Averie starting beating Aubrey with a pillow and he sat up right.
Aubrey (Laughing): I wasn't expecting this in the morning. I was hoping for something more-
Averie: Don't you dare!
Aubrey (Laughing): Why'd you wake me.
Averie: Because I'm tired of this. This we have sex then don't talk for weeks. I'm not that type of girl. And you need to get out of my bed.
Aubrey got up and put on his sweatpants. He checked his phone.
Aubrey (To himself): I need to call Alicia back.
Averie made a noise and threw a pillow at Aubrey. She left her room in her robe and went downstairs to her kitchen. Aubrey threw his phone on the bed and followed her. He stopped her by the sink.
Aubrey: We never said what we were. I thought we were just having fun.
Averie tried to slap him but he grabbed her hand and interlocked her fingers. As smart and sophisticated Averie was, someone like Aubrey made her dumb.
Averie: This ISN'T fun. But you know what? I guess that's just the motion.
She pulled away and fixed her hair.
Aubrey: This is supposed to be no strings attached right?
Averie (Closing her robe and walking out): Mhm.
Averie went back upstairs and Aubrey left, obviously leaving his phone. Averie wasn't sure what was going on with her feelings and it was starting to annoy her. She spent the day getting her hair and makeup done so she can go drinking. Averie dropped off Aubrey's phone with his friend Noah since he was apparently somewhere in America. He had a back up though.
In the course of a few weeks, Aubrey went mainstream, using his middle name as his stage name. Averie was proud to see everything going good for him but...
Aubrey: I'm exhausted of being exhausted.
The guys were all talking on a tour bus somewhere in Dallas, Texas.
Noah: This should get your creative flows working. Why don't you go into the studio and work on something.
That's what Aubrey did, in the middle of Dallas, Aubrey recorded a song at 9 AM. It wasn't emotional or about love, it was mostly encounters in the industry, anything and everything that was on his mind at 9 AM in Dallas.
[In Averie's living room]
Aubrey: So apparently, me being on a teen actor prohibits me from being a good rapper.
Averie (Handing Aubrey a glass of wine): Well, when people...in America, think of rap, they think of New York, Compton, anything that seems hard. They can't imagine rap associated with Canada. Let alone a teen soap.
Aubrey: But that's not who I am. It's not like I'm lying to them about who I am. I'm being honest.
Averie: And there's no problem with that. Sell them your story. They want you to have the same struggles that they do. They want a story from you so where are you gonna start? What do you have to say?
Aubrey (Shooting Averie an intense look): I can talk about love.
He moved closer to Averie.
Averie: I don't think anyone would wanna listen to music about manipulation and whoring.
Aubrey rolled his eyes.
He really did like Averie but she seemed so cold to him. Like she really didn't like him. And he was too immature to give Averie what she wanted which was him to come out about how he felt. And he'd had sex 4 times that week. He wasn't gonna give up what he had going. The life he had going, the perks of his success were too great to pay attention to what happens in the future. And someone like Averie was going to help him secure his future.
Averie: Look, I'm just trying to be a friend and help someone that I think can go far in this business. I know what you're capable of. (Taking a sip of wine) I'm not even gonna tell you to go back to the drawing board. Continue to do what you're doing.
Aubrey: What is that?
Averie: Being yourself. Doing that little thing has gotten you Grammy winning acknowledgement for mixtape worth. Your phone hasn't stopped ringing for features and magazine covers and interviews.
Aubrey realized how right she was and that people were trivializing where he was from and what he was doing way too much. He had thick skin, he knew he could take whatever was gonna happen if he could make his music and him and his friends could be happy and successful. He just wanted to be successful. Aubrey got up and approached Averie who was now in the kitchen cutting up fruit.
Aubrey: You're so right. (Pushing her hair behind her ear) So uhh..what about dinner?
Averie (Scowling Aubrey): I'm helping you. Not humping you.
She walked away from him to the other side of the kitchen and he followed.
Aubrey: Wait. That wasn't what you were saying-
Averie: That was a date. That was obviously a mistake.
Aubrey: Why?
Averie: Because. You're in the "I think having random sex with steppers is cool" phase. I can't get with that.
Aubrey: You'll come around as soon as things settle down.
Averie: As soon as what settles down?
Aubrey (Approaching her): Me, my life, my career.
Averie: No matter what, morning for you will settle down. Everything is gonna be a freak show. What you need to do is grow up.
Aubrey: I am. I'm deep. I'm grown.
Averie: In your music. Which is beautiful. (Stroking his freshly shaven face) But do you think this would really work out? Right now?
Aubrey was down for the challenge. He didn't know that chasing her would ultimately be a good thing for the both of them.
