what if this storm ends
and i don't see you
as you are now
ever again?
then maybe what we had
was never real at all.
just for a minute
the silver-forked sky
lit you up like a star
that i will follow
i have always
followed you. and
you have always
been there for me.
but how long before even that
changes?
now it's found us
like i have found you
i don't wanna run
just overwhelm me
who could've guessed
we'd meet again - here?
of all places: that foreign city,
after all those years apart.
you have grown and changed.
and so have i; though you still
prefer to pretend i am
young yet.
what if this storm ends
and leaves us nothing
except a memory
a distant echo
i didn't realize how
my memories had been fading
until you
pointed it out.
i wonder if yours have faded,
too? how long will it be
before we forget
everything?
i want to see you
as you are now
every single day
that i am living
i've lived all these years
without you,
and you
without me.
perhaps we were always
meant to be apart - forever?
have we been holding on
to nothing but ashes and dust?
painted in flames
all peeling thunder
be the lightning in me
that strikes relentless
summer storms have gone and passed;
now i wait for rains and perhaps, snow.
you broke apart but didn't give me a chance
to pick up the pieces and glue you back together.
one summer month we had
to try and piece back the puzzle.
but we couldn't find that missing piece;
and there were so many new ones
in the way, too.
what if this storm ends
i can't hear the rains
pounding on the roof any more.
soon the sun will return, and light up
everything again.
and i don't see you
the darkness was kinder to our eyes.
we could act as though we'd
succeeded. but the truth
is so, so different.
as you are now
what am i? what are you?
where have you been?
if i could have you back -
if you could have me back -
if we could change everything
that's happened these
past few years...
would we?
would you?
would i?
ever again
the storm's ended,
and i don't see you
anywhere
at all.
