It had been 5 years, but I could never forget that sweet smile. She never failed to give a smile to anyone, even to strangers or during her darkest hour. Most of all, she would only flash the most sincere smile she had.

I met Lucy when I moved to my new school. She caught my eye, she was petting an exceed, she looked cute and lonely. But alas. I was too shy to greet her and my keep cool facade encouraged it. I was extremely surprised to see her in the class I was assigned to. The class teacher asked me to sit next to her. At first I want to decline but her adorable smile that she gave me, made me agree automatically. The minute she introduced herself, I immediately became good friends with her. Her alluring voice made me feel as if I was on a vehicle.

Lucy was very helpful. She helped me catch up on my homework. She even showed me around school, pointing out her favorite spots. She would accompany me around school most of the time. I realized that everyone was at ease with her. This spiked my jealousy especially when she spoked softly and sweetly with certain peers.

After a while, I knew that I was lucky to have her as a best friend. S Class Examination was around the corner and we had to study. Lucy and I always studied together. She was very smart and helped me a lot as I was quite slow. We would discuss things that we did jot understand.

The two of us would stay back in the evenings to do revisions together. We also attended extra classes together in school. I only stayed because I wanted to be with her. During these times, I would make sure she arrived home safe. She was very feminine and I didn't want anything to happen to her. She lived alone because her father ignored her. I guess it was just my way as I was the man of my house since my father disappeared. We would also ask Gramps when things got difficult

It was time for us to take our S Class Exams, we managed to answer well. I wasn't confident that I had well as I was skeptical on a few answers. But Lucy managed to convinced me that we would be alright. I believed her as usual. They we received our results, it was one if my happiest memories. We hugged and danced, we had earned it. I even accidentally kissed her cheek.

Our friendship blossomed from a single sweet smile. Now, both of us are in the same university together. Lucy made me feel safe although I was a new student. I was thankful to know her.

I wrote that 5 years ago. It was suppose to be my confession towards her. Now, I sit by my window. Reminding myself of that day. I couldn't keep her safe. She died saving me, a single push that made me stagger out of our burning dorm. Glancing back, I saw sadness in her eyes, but her lips was still locked in that mesmerizing sweet smile. The last she gave, before the foundation collapsed upon her. The burn marks on the parchment force me to replay this thousands of times...

I couldn't even keep my dream of marrying her. She joked about it, but I held it strongly. Tomorrow, I'll be on the altar. An arranged marriage by my foster father to Lisanna Straus, a childhood friend of mine and a good friend of Lucy's. They all want me to forget her, to let her go. But my heart got burnt and buried with her.
