" I act scary, Mike. But most of the time, I'm terrified." --Pixars' Monsters' University
Jack
"Jack! Did you know that this cave actually reaches miles and miles underground? It's almost like an iceberg," Elsa ran through my cell doors the next day, gesturing adamantly. She'd been gone all night, and I'd missed her.
"Exactly like an iceberg, actually," I pointed out, not turning away from the wall I was examining.
"What's up with you?" She bent beside me, with a hand on my shoulder.
"Nothing," I sighed, looking at her. "Have you found any possible ways out of this iceberg?" I saw her hesitate, looking down.
"It's barely been three days. And I haven't found anything to contradict Ursa's story." Elsa started fiddling with the lace sleeves made by the Snow Queen.
"Are you sure you're looking?" I tried to keep my voice level. Elsa seemed unsure.
"What, you don't trust me?" She crossed her arms.
"No, of course not! But you look like you're...getting comfortable. You do know that we can't stay here, even if Ursa doesn't turn out to be a psycho, don't you?" I paced the room, rubbing my hands along my staff. I was getting restless in this enclosed space.
"Psycho? Did you think I was a 'psycho' when we first met?" She narrowed her eyes. I was baffled by the question.
"Elsa, I don't--I would--ugh, you were troubled when we met! She has a mysterious past, and she's had hundreds of years to stew in whatever hatred she has!" I pointed in the direction of the throne room, confused. I could see the gears turning in Elsa's head, fighting between her icy temper and cool head.
"She did lose her daughter to my parents."
"Allegedly!" I cried.
"Either way, she created me. She's the missing piece I've been looking for all this time...I need to know, Jack. Along the way, I can help her. Maybe she can make up with the Guardians--" I was already shaking my head.
"She's not going anywhere near the Workshop. Honey, I think the others would've done something a long time ago if Manny thought that she could be helped. The only way is to destroy her, like they tried to do." Elsa's eyes widened at this.
"You certainly didn't destroy me! Which means she's not completely gone either. Don't worry, I won't ever let her hurt you, and I'll keep an eye out for the Guardians!" She backed away through the doors, letting go of my hand I hadn't realized she'd grabbed.
"Elsa, no! Not until--" I got cut off by the doors slamming shut behind her. Before that, I had seen something in her eyes. Anger at me, yes (I had that effect on people). But behind it was hope. And I was terrified that that hope would be snuffed out.
