Chapter 2

Josh

I hope she's ok I thought as I carried her to the nurses office. As we got closer Erica started to wake up. "Where are you taking me" she asked as she looked around. "The nurses office that bitch kicked you pretty hard and you passed out" I said and she practically jumped from my arms. "No I cant go there they'll make me take my arm socks off then call my parents" she said trying to get away from me. "Erica wait whats wrong if they take off your arm socks" I asked but she pulled free and ran. The bell signalling lunch rang and I headed to the cafeteria to find my sister. "Hey Sara" I said as I got in line behind her. "Hey that was quick" she said starting to grab some food. I just shrugged my shoulders and grabbed some to. "Mind if I sit with you" I said as we paid. She nodded and we headed over to a table in the back. She had of course already made friends. "Hey guys this is my brother Josh" she said sitting down. I waved to be polite and sat down.

About half way through lunch Missy found me. "Hey Josh have you seen Erica?" she asked. "Not since she ran away from me cause I was trying to take her to the nurses office. She was getting beat up when me and my sister found her" I said. She looked mortified "shit ok thanks I know where she might be then I just hope I'm not to late to stop her" she said running off. "sorry sis I gotta find out whats wrong I get the feeling I was suppose to met her" I said running after Missy. "Hey Missy wait I'm coming with you" I said and she slowed down a little bit so I could catch up to her. "Why do you care" she asked me. I really didn't know why. "Honestly I've had a weird feeling like I was suppose to met her for some reason" I said as we ran out the back door of the school and to the woods. "Where are we going" I asked as we finally started to walk since we made it to the tree line. "When ever this happens she goes in here its her hiding place from reality and its not good when she comes here upset or hurt because last time I was to late and almost lost her" she said with tears in her eyes. I made her stop and hugged her to me "I won't let that happen I'm going to help her" I said and she nodded hugging me back. We started walking again and about five mins later we came to a bridge. "Is this the way" I asked. She nodded but looked scared. "Are you ok" I asked her. "I just keep remembering how I seen her the last time she came out here it was right before summer started and I was the one to find her half lifeless body laying on the ground" she said out right crying now. I grabbed her hand and made her move and show me where there was no way that was happening again. She stopped and pointed up at a huge oak tree. I looked up and there was a huge tree house up there. It was actually really beautiful it had to of been done by a professional. "Erica are you up there" I yelled and heard movement. "We have to go up" I said looking at Missy. She nodded and went first I had offered to but she knew Erica better and knew if she'd do something stupid or not. "Erica sweety its Missy are you ok?" She asked as we got to the top and in the door. Erica was sitting on the couch with her knees brought to her chest and her head down. I could tell she was crying by the way her shoulders shook.

Missy went and sat down next to her and wrapped her arms around her as soon as Erica leaned on her. "What happened after you left class?" she asked and Erica looked up at Missy then looked away. She looked ashamed of herself but I'm not sure why. Then I remembered she freaked out about having to remove her arm socks. "Oh god no tell me you don't" I blurted out. They both looked up confused then Missy seemed to understand and grabbed her arm making her wince. She pulled the left one off and started crying. "You promised. After how I found you how I almost lost you, you promised me you'd stop" she said letting her arm drop.

Erica

Missy pulled my arm sock off and started crying and screaming at me about my promise, but all I could think is why is Josh here he doesn't even know me why does he pretend he cares what happens to me. I looked away from Missy. "You don't understand why I do it and you never will. Missy I'm sorry I tried I really did but it's hard ok especially with all the shit I go through. And Josh why are you even here you don't know me why are you pretending you care" I screamed getting up and storming out of my tree house my father built for me out here when I was little. "No I don't know you but dammnit that's what I've been trying to do all day is get to know you. You're the one not letting me" he said coming after me. "Did you ever think that I don't want to know you" I said and instantly regretted it. "Ok I can take a hint I'll leave you alone" he said and turned to leave. Damn it what is it about him why do I feel pulled to him I thought. "Wait I'm sorry I'm just mad" I said. "Look Erica I dont know why but from the minute I walked in homeroom and seen you I felt drawn to you and I want to know why" he said taking my hand. As our hands touched I somehow felt whole like I was normal like I wasn't completely out of my mind. "I want to but Eric won't like you talking to me" I said taking my hand out of his. "What is he that over protective that you can't have any guy friends" I asked. "He thinks if I have guy friends I'll some how embarrass him and when that happens he hits me hard. My parents don't know and I'm to scared to tell them" I said looking down. "That prick hits you are you serious" he said seeming to get pissed. I nodded and he put his hands on my shoulders. "Look at me. From now on my sister said she would keep you safe from the girls I will keep you as safe as I can from your brother but you have to tell someone or he could end up going to far once and seriously injuring you or worse" he said. I knew he was right but damn it I'm scared of my parents to. "I'll try and Josh you and your sister don't need to be dragged into my fucked up life. I'm sorry but I can't risk you or her getting hurt because of me" I said trying to turn away. "Erica neither of us are really giving you a choice in the matter. I have every class with you and the ones that he has with us I will make sure he keeps his distance" he said pulling me into a hug. I've never felt this way before. I kind of felt safe in his arms. "Ok we need to get back for third period I know its going to be my favorite" he said grabbing mine and Missy's hands and taking off running to the bridge to take us back. We got back just in time to get to class. We sat down in Music class and of course Eric had this class as well. He came in and seen Missy on one side of me sitting as close as she could and the same with Josh. "Hey what the hell do you think your doing my sister is not to be sitting with boys" he said marching over. "Oh and who are you to tell her other wise" said Josh. "I'm her older brother" said Eric and Josh laughed. "Oh really cause from the looks of it your twins" said Josh making me giggle. "Shut the fuck up Erica no one was talking you" said Eric and I flinched when I seen his hands go into fists. "You might want to put the fists away I promise you if you lay a hand on her ever again especially in front of me you will regret it" said Josh standing up and towering over Eric. Josh stepped closer to Eric and for the first time ever Eric backed down. "See you at home sis" he said with a smirk and walked away. I'm going to get the shit beat out of me tonight great. "Don't worry about him. I will protect you one way or another" said Josh
