Chapter three: The train

Rina drags us to a compartment with our two mentors, Brutas and Enobaria (who's teeth I hate). Enobaria gives us some basic advice and Brutas says "Stay alive." So helpful...(I guess). They make us watch all of the reapings, our other careers are two blond weirdos called Marvel and Glimmer, why do the district one idiots get picked when we go in? We are looking like the strongest ones out of the tributes until they show district twelve where both tributes look like they could take us down easily but we all have a good laugh when their mentor falls off the stage.

Rina shows us to our rooms and it I can't get over how amazing they are! I take a look into Cato's room and both rooms are identical. I find a pair of pyjamas and lay them on my bed for later, then Enobaria comes in to tell me it's dinner time.

Cato and I both have two bowls of soup which fills us up then a Sunday roast is brought onto the table so I take some, pretend to eat it and when nobody's looking, put it on Cato's plate. This of course, confused him as he mysteriously had an endless supply of food.

After dinner, Brutas sends us to bed at half six saying we need an early night, I try to tell him I'm fifteen not three but he doesn't listen.

I change into my pyjamas and sit by the window hugging my knees and I let the moonlight stream down on me. I know Cato is at the door watching me so I turn to him and say "I'm assuming you can't sleep either." There's an awkward silence before he replies "No, I just can't get over this mess!" He walks over to me and says "In training, act violent and nobody will target you in the games." I smile and say "Thanks, I'll remember that." He then asks me a question that I'm not sure how to answer, he asks me "Clove, back at training, did you mean what you said in a friendly way or..." he trails of. I say the first thing that comes to my mind before realising I shouldn't have said "Friendly way." He looks disappointed and walks back to his room.
