Chapter sixteen: tracker jacker venom

He's actually kissing me! Is this all a dream? It's too good to be true! I never thought I would feel his warm lips press against mine like this, I thought we were just friends but obviously not! The feeling's strange, but a good strange. We sit facing each other just kissing for what feels like twenty minutes.

We eventually break apart.

"I never thought you'd actually do that." I say out of shock.

"I never thought I'd have the courage." He answers.

"I never thought I would do this either." I lean in and kiss him again, his arms wrap around me so I wrap mine around him. This kiss lasts about a quarter of the length of the previous one.

"You should probably get some sleep now."

He lays down and closes his eyes, half an hour later I hear his breathing get heavier and I know he's asleep.

Morning creeps in and the sun peeks over the horizon.

"Morning sleepy head!" I say to Cato mid-yawn.

"Like you can speak." He also says mid-yawn.

"Well it's your fault, you were the one that was kissing me." I state simply.

"Yeah, can we not tell the others about that..."

"Did you seriously think I was going to?"

"No...it was just a possibility..."

"I'm going to wake Marvel and what's his face."

I walk over to Marvel and shake his shoulders, I then do the same with the three boy. They both refuse to get up even when I offer food.

"Come on, I've been awake all night and I'm still up so you should at least be able to eat breakfast!" I complain.

A low moan escapes Marvel's lips and then I notice it, the tracker jacker sting has swollen to the size of a large plumb.

"Why haven't you taken the stinger out?!" I ask, surprised that he hasn't had the common sense to do so.

He moans again so I just take it out myself.

"Can you be a bit more gentle next time?" He asks.

"Well sorry but you couldn't be bothered to and you'd probably flinch if I didn't do it quickly." I take a breath and pause before continuing, "And anyway, there's probably not going to be a 'next time', so yeah."

I elbow the three boy and say "Get up."

He refuses so I yank the stinger out of his leg, he sits up slowly but then collapses.

"Oh my... is he okay?" I ask panicked.

"I think so..." Cato also sounds panicked.

"I think it might be the venom from the tracker jackers." I say whilst reaching for a makeshift first aid kit.

I find some kind of chemical treatment thing and put it on the sting that's now grown to the size of an orange.

"Please say you've taken the stingers out of the sting under your your eye." I say to Cato even though I'm not waiting for a reply.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I?"

"Just wandering because these two thick heads forgot."

"Well sorry but not everyone's a smart-" Marvel is stopped by the three boy taking a deep breath and then start panting.

"Are you okay?" I ask, why am I so bad at medical care?

"Yeah, I'm fine, how long was I out?" He asks as if it's a normal thing.

"A few minutes, not long."

"Good, these things normally knock you out for a couple of days!"
