Chapter 10- Saying Hi

Hotch's Point of View

Yesterday's case had been successful. We safely got the boy and his aunt had come forward to volunteer to raise him. It isn't everyday that you have a successful kidnapping case.

I returned home last night to find Jack curled up on the couch asleep. I carried him to his room and then called JJ to ask how Henry was doing. She seemed really happy on the other line when she told me that Henry was okay.

I got up fro my desk and walked towards Garcia'a office with yet another case file in my hands. The team had already gotten here and were hanging out in the bullpen. Morgan was patting Reid on the back for one reason or another. Prentiss and JJ were laughing about something.

Wait, Emily? I thought. What the hell is she doing here?

I pause for a second and observe as Rossi comes and gives Emily a hug. She must be visiting, but why wouldn't she tell me. I stand there, watching as I think.

Emily's Point of View

earlier that day

JJ gave me a ride the BAU building. I really don't think I have ever been this nervous for anything, ever. Would the team even want me back? I have already made a grand return once, now I was about to make another one. Well at least I wasn't coming back from the dead this time.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, Reid noticed me.

"Emily?" He said, "What are you doing here?"

I take a deep breathe before saying.

"Well, I'm coming back, only if you want me too." I said slightly tentative. I could feel JJ beaming beside me.

"Want you to? Of course we want you back!" Reid said loudly.

At this point Derek had walked over and doubled back when he saw me.

"Morgan..." I said, not exactly sure what to say.

"It's okay, welcome back Prentiss." He said knowingly. I'll never really know how he knew I was coming back.

Rossi came and gave me a hug and welcomed me back. I guess he too knew I wanted back in.

As Rossi went back to his office, the four of us started talking and joking around, as if no time had passed.

As I was talking to everyone I could feel someone watching me from behind. I turned around to see Hotch, standing on the landing outside his office with a hurt look on his face. I knew I should have told him about coming back.

I stuck away from everyone to talk to Hotch and he beckoned me into his office.

We both stood there slightly awkwardly, until I broke the silence.

"So..um.. how's Jack doing?" I say.

"He's great, but that is obviously not why you are here. Emily, why are you here?" Aaron asked still looking like a kicked puppy.

"I didn't mean to hurt you. I guess I needed to leave to see if it was better. To see if it got any better. It wasn't and it doesn't." I said, trying to look at his eyes.

"You could have told me that you coming back." Hotch said.

"I didn't think a text would be able to sum everything up." I said a bit defensively.

"After everything, everything that happened, you didn't even call once. I called you, every day for two months, but you never called back." He says, the volume of his voice escalating.

"I thought separating myself from you and everyone would help me feel more at home there. Then Rossi called me about an agent resigning and offered me a job. I literally just hopped on a plane and came." I said helplessly. This seems to calm him down.

"Okay.." he sighs. "Don't get me wrong I- we missed you, but I just wish you never left." Hotch said.

"So do I." I said as I saw Hotch smile.

"He smiles?!" I said laughing.

"Actually yes he does." Aaron replies. "Listen, I need to talk to you about... everything.... We have a case right now, so after. Coffee, when we get back?"

"Sounds great." I say as we walk out.

"Oh and Emily, you can start today if you want." He says as I walk away smiling. It is good to be back.
