Nic's POV
When I walked into the cafeteria in the morning and sat at the table with all of my friends, I had a very large smile on my face.
"You have the face of someone who just got laid. Did the 'study' date with Natalie go that well?" I shook my head at Layla's comment, thinking back on yesterday.
"It did go well, but not that well. Natalie isn't ready for that, but I'm pretty sure she isn't as straight as she was saying all those times." I leaned back in my seat, placing my hands behind my head.
"So, you think you have a chance now?" My smile unwavering, I turned towards Kate.
"I am ninety percent sure if I asked her out on a date, she would say yes. That answer your question?" Kate nodded, not saying anything else about the romance in my life.
"Do any of you know what you're going as for Halloween?" Kate asked and Hayden was the first to let out a groan and shook his head.
"You're already thinking about Halloween? It's only the second." Kate just shrugged, smiling a little bit.
"Hey, I like to know what I'm going to be in advance. And I'm throwing my annual Halloween party, so I'm curious what kinds of costumes people are going to come in wearing." I rolled my eyes before looking around the cafeteria for Natalie, but found her nowhere.
"If it helps any, I was thinking something classic. Like a vampire, or a witch. Maybe even a zombie," Lily trailed off. I've known Lily since grade school, and if I can say anything about her, she loves Halloween. Maybe it's because she's still small enough to pass as a middle schooler and get candy without question. While the rest of us looked like high schoolers and usually got yelled at for trick-or-treating.
"I think you'd be a cute witch." Everyone's heads turned to Layla, who hadn't said a word the entire conversation until now. Lily's eyes widened as her cheeks started to burn.
"Re-really...?" Layla nodded, which made Lily's cheeks deepen in colour.
"Well, I wanna go as a unicorn!" Hayden suddenly jumped into the conversation, his voice loud and disrupting, so naturally, everyone looked at him instead.
"Really? A unicorn?" He nodded in a matter of fact way, making me laugh at least.
"Wow, and when I thought you couldn't get any more gay." He looked over at me, an unamused look on his face.
"Oh yeah, and what are you going as?" I met his gaze, thinking about my costume in mind before shrugging.
"I'm not sure yet. I've had a few ideas, but none of them have stuck out to me." He seemed almost disapointed in my answer before the bell rang. "Well, I'm actually going to class today, so I shall see you guys second period."
They seemed almost shocked with my statement, but I didn't pay much attention to them. My eyes were locked onto Natalie's figure as it passed by the entrance. I quickly stood, following that perfect figure into the classroom. My eyes switched from her as she sat down to the man sitting at the teacher's desk, who was obviously not my teacher.
A sub, fuck yeah! I didn't hesitate to walk to the front of the room and take a seat right next to Natalie. She glanced at me, which made me smile at her, before she looked down at her notebook again. She was writing something and I looked up at the board at the front, seeing that there was some sort of starter we had to do. I tilted my head to the side a bit, reading the question over and over before looking at Natalie again.
"Can I borrow a piece of paper?" She looked over at me, her eyes a bit wide before ripping a piece out of her notebook and handing it to me. I smiled at her before pulling a pencil out of my pocket and getting to work on the starter, as strange as it sounds. It must have been weird, because Natalie stared at me for a little while. I just glanced at her, smiling again, which made her smile a bit and return to her homework.
