Clara's heart beat rapidly in her chest as she quickly changed in the female dorm bathrooms. Toby had left to change himself, leaving her to question what exactly had just happened.
At first she had been sad and scared, having just discovered and witnessed her death. However, amongst those feelings, she felt relaxed and safe. lol nothing horrible could ever touch or harm her again. That's when she noticed Toby holding her and she knew she never wanted him to let go.
Clara quickly changed out of her soaked clothes and into black tight fitted black trousers, a white shirt and her original military jacket. She left her hair down and wet, not knowing what else to do with it.
When she stepped out, tiny was there waiting for her. Clara stopped, unable not to stare. He was the most handsome man she'd ever laid eyes on. His a hair had dried since he left, leaving it even more curly than before. He wore all black like usual, minus the blazer and was looking down at his scarred hands. Clara couldn't help but remember those hands holding her when she needed them most.
"Toby." She said softly and he looked up. Their eyes met and unanswered questions and feelings swarmed between them. Suddenly, Toby was wrapping her in a hug. Clara gasped, but not out of shock, but because of the tingles that spread along every part of her body that he touched. It was a lovely feeling, a magical one. Clara knew Toby felt it to as his breathing became uneven and he clung tighter.
"I thought I lost you." He mumbled into her hair.
Clara broke away, but Toby's eyes remained on her waist. "I saw how I died." She whispered softly and Toby pulled her back in for a bone crushing hug.
"I'm sorry." He said and Clara knew he meant it. "Finding out how you died is never pleasant."
Clara broke free again. "When did you find out?"
Toby sighed, seeming uncomfortable with the question.
Clara kissed his cheek and his eyes widened. "It's alright, you don't have to tell me."
"No," he shook his head. "It's not that. I-I just have never told anyone how I died before."
Clara frowned. "Not even Adam?"
"Not even Adam."
"Oh."
Toby took her hand. "Here, sit down. If I'm going to tell anyone, it might as well be you."
Clara sat down, warmed by his words and listened closely as he began.London 1888
Tobias Connor walked down the lamp lit streets of London with his hands shoved into his trouser pockets and his shoes clacking on the cobblestones. It was late at night, the streets deserted from all but him. He was on his way back from his father's clinic, a place he liked to help out regularly. He stayed a little late that night and knew his mother would be getting worried didn't he return soon.
The moon hung bright and heavy in the sky, accompanied by all the glistening stars. Tobias couldn't help but think it was a beautiful night.
When Tobias turned to corner, he got a strange feeling in his gut. He shook it off and continued on. A few minutes late, that uneasy feeling increased and Tobias stopped to scan his surroundings.
That is when he noticed the dark figure coming towards him from the shadows of a nearby street. Tobias pulled his hands out of his pocket. "Hello?" He called.
The dark figure didn't answer, just kept coming closer and closer. Tobias's hands began to sweat and he turned to leave, however was stopped by a pair of painfully cold hands gripping his shoulders and tugging him back.
"Give me your money." A slimy voice hissed in his ear.
Tobias' heart began to beat rapidly in his chest. "I-I don't have any. Please, please just let me go."
"Liar!" The voice screeched. Tobias had heard people like this before in his father's clinic. Mentally unstable with no where to go. Extremely dangerous if not treated to.
Tobias did before he thought and brought his elbow up to the mans face like his brother had taught him when boys. He elbow connected with the mans nose and the man released. Tobias took this opportunity and moved to run, only to be stopped by the ear piercing bang of a hand gun and sudden sharp pain in his back.
Tobias eyes widened in shock and he dropped to his knees. He felt his life slipping away like the blood slowly leaving his body and the pain slowly spreading over every nerve.
Tobias, as he died, looked up to the stars one last time and prayed for a saviour to save him.Clara sat in shock at the story. She wasn't sure when she had begun to cry, but the tears ran down her face hot and fast. Toby's face was ashen by time he finished and he looked as though he was about to be sick.
Clara stood and brought his face into her hands. He closed his eyes at her touch and she rubbed circles with her thumbs on his cheeks. When tears began to slip from his eyes, Clara's heart broke in two.
"I love you Toby." She said and meant it.
Toby opened his eyes and heaved what sounded like a relieved sigh. "And I love you, my little saviour."
