Clara quickly stood before the dust could clear, running straight towards Ralph's seat. He was sat, just as they had planned, clutching onto the ancient book as if his life depended on it. His blue eyes snapped to hers before jumping up.
"Let's go, raspberry." He said with a wink. Raspberry, what was that about?
"No time to explain, come on." He says grabbing her hand.
Clara's lungs filled with dust and she coughed. Ralph kept tugging her hand needless, desperate to get them both to safety.
Toby!
The voice shouted so loudly in Clara's head, she cried out and clutched her skull. It felt as though something was trying to make its way out of her head. Agonisingly painful.
"Clara, what is it?" Ralph asked, the panic clear in his voice.
Clara was gasping now, so bit her tongue to keep from making anymore noise.
"Clara stop!" Ralph yelled, shaking her shoulders. "Stop!"
That is when Clara tasted the blood in her mouth. Her tongue throbbed when she released it, realising her mistake.
"Toby," she managed. "We need to find Toby."
Ralph looked hesitant. "But I thought you said-"
"Just find him!" She yelled before her legs buckled and she crumpled to the ground. Ralph looked terrified for her, but ran into the dust anyways. Clara sat there, her whole body trembling from the sudden pain in her skull. She was leaning against the table leg, meaning she was on the opposite side of the room to the door. Just great, she thought bitterly.
"Don't hide little saviour." Clara heard Vanessa's sweet voice sing.
Clara's blood turned to ice and fear gripped her heart. Oh no. Oh no. Oh-
"I hate this game," she continued in that sickly sweet voice. "It's never much fun, I always win."
Clara shivered but relied on the dust. As long as the dust did not settle, she'd be alright.
"And do you want to know what I do to the captured when i win?"
Clara was shaking violently now, she felt as if she were dying.
"I kill them." Vanessa hissed, any past pleasantries gone.
Clara let out a small whimper, barley audible to her own ears.
It was enough for Vanessa however, who appeared out of nowhere in front of Clara who screamed in complete and utter fear. Clara's eyes widened when she saw the blade in Vanessa's hands. Vanessa grinned, the most scary thing Clara had ever seen in her two lives. Before Clara could cry out once more, Vanessa struck the blade into Clara's heart. The pain with ten times worse than the pain in her head, in fact it took away all the pain in her head. It was like the first time she'd woken up in that white room. Fire lacing through her veins, melting everything and anything in its wake. Clara couldn't handle it anymore. She screamed, screamed so loudly she was sure even the living could hear. The last thing Clara saw was a burst of gold light before she fell into the open arms of darkness.
