Raven Cruxho

Chills ran down my neck as I thought about the dream I had just awakened from. My one brother, who was just a month younger than me, was awakened by my shrill scream. He stared at me for a few minutes before he finally decided to say something.

            “Raven? What’s wrong?” asked Luke.

Of course I didn’t answer him. Instead I gave him one of my cold glares. He wasn’t born from the same mother as I. On the contrary he was born to my aunt from my father. Our family was extremely messed up. Jean, my other brother, and I were born to the same mother. He was my twin brother at that.

“Luke, it’s none of your business.” I replied slowly. I couldn’t get along with Luke, no matter how hard I tried. Jean stared at me for a brief second before speaking.

“You still can’t accept that our whole village was killed by demons can you?” Jean asked in a taunting voice.

“I just think there was more to it than a random attack. We can handle demons easily. Never before has a random attack taken us out so easily.” I replied holding back my anger.

“Well you just keep thinking about that then.” said Jean curtly.

“I wanted to stay and fight, but you made me run off away from our burning village, family, friends like a mere—,“ Jean cut me off quickly.

“Like father said. Every time you remind us you say like cowards. Well that’s not true at all. Raven you got to start…”

My brother’s words slowly faded away as I stared into the starry night sky. I picked up my sleeping bag and walked out of the room. Jean got extremely angry, but I didn’t care. Besides, I didn’t even belong in that room. They were always afraid of being attacked by demons. My cousin Edward Serpey, Ed for short, was standing outside the door. I looked up at him; my hazel eyes scanning his face. Next thing I noticed he handed me a sword.

“What’s this?” I asked very confused.

“I taught you and your brothers to defend yourselves without using magic and I now I’ve been requested to find a boy who has been running around and giving people deep gashes in the leg around our area, and poisoning them. A lot of these people have been hospitalized and are lucky to be alive. Some aren’t so fortunate.” Ed explained.

“So this is another sword you’re giving me, and why aren’t my brothers coming?” I questioned.

“Well your brothers just seem to be a little too squeamish with fighting life,” Ed said as I examined the extremely dark blue blade he had handed to me, “Can I see that sword for a second?” Ed asked.

I handed him the blade. He took it into his rough hands and suddenly hit the hilt of the sword. Another blade jumped off immediately, and my eyes glistened with awe as I saw the twin blades.

“Brilliant!” I said as I grabbed them from Ed’s hands, “but wait, how do you put them back together?”

“Simple, just slam them together.” Ed explained. For him, that was one of the shortest explanations in the world, and possibly the last. Everything is elaborate for Ed. I followed his instructions, and I slammed the blades together. With no hesitation the blades became one again.

“Thank you, thank you very much!” I said as I jumped up and hugged him.

“Well, you are very welcome my dear. Now go get ready to head out.” Ed spoke quietly as I dashed down the hall.

I immediately went to my closet and pulled out some of my best fighting clothes; easy to move in and comfortable. I seem to pull on the clothes slowly while examining my new blade. One of my old ones laid shattered in the back of my closet. It had busted during practice one day. Magic and metal clashed fiercely that day.
