Ed Serpey
I turned around and there stood Luke. I didn’t ask any questions, but I knew he and Jean must have overheard Raven and I talking. I heard Jean call out my name suddenly and instinctively ran in that direction. My guess was that he and Raven had found each other. I ran through the forest, but soon realized we weren’t far apart at all. When I entered the clearing, I saw Raven standing by a body with her sword in it. I ran up to Raven and caught her as she collapsed to the ground.
“What happened to her?!” I asked Jean.
“I don’t know!” he sobbed, “They were fighting and I saw her get scratched on the side of her arm. It didn’t look bad at all!”
I examined Jean’s face closely. He seemed to be acting as if Raven had just died in front of his eyes.
“Luke teleport Raven back to her room” I commanded. Luke did as I asked him almost instantly.
“Ed I...“ Jean began.
“I know… You’re sorry for nothing, like always. Jean you have to let go. Swift will you please take the body to the Magic Control Committee with this note?” I said as I tied a piece of paper to her collar. She grasped the shirt of the dead man and vanished into thin air.
“So you’re not mad?” Jean asked?
I pulled Raven’s sword out of the ground and detached the hilts from each other, “No not at all,” I said as I slammed the two swords back together to one.
We walked through the forest slowly. Swift had reappeared and slowly walked with us. Jean still looked like he was going to cry his eyes out of his head. I wanted to reach out and hug him, but I had to be strong for them.
“Come on Jean, you have to be strong for your brother, you know that right?” I asked.
“No… I didn’t know that.” Jean said through sobs.
I looked at him shocked. I always expected him to know that. I actually felt like embracing him which I did out of pure instinct. It came as a shock to Jean at showing him my softness.
“Everybody has a soft side, even you Jean.” I said softly.
“I find that a little hard to believe. I’ve always been strong and nothing less!” he said as he pulled away from me.
I watched him storm through the forest. I guess he didn’t want to be soft and strong at the same time. I patted Swift on the head and hurried home.
