Ed Serpey
I knew that Rochata was a very respectful warlock and would never try to go against us. He was kicked out of his house already, and would do anything to stay in a house. Raven seemed to trust him, and the boys did too, so I had no problem in letting him stay with us.
“Sir, I’d like to thank you again for letting me stay here. You can be assured also that I’ll stand by the decisions you make, and stay away from you’re daug—,” I cut him off.
“My cousin,” I corrected him quietly.
“Oh your cousin… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean too… Wait a minute what happened to their parents?” Rochata asked.
I stared down at him. His brown eyes drilled into me with questions. I rubbed the back of my head, trying to think of a way to dodge this conversation. It wasn’t something I liked to talk about considering they were my aunts and uncle. I knew there was no way around this conversation, so I tried to think of a way to state the story in a short sweet manner.
“Murdered,” I said coarsely, “and betrayed by a close family friend. Her name was Sashaya Minya. She teamed up with demons and managed to get them to attack the whole village. Most of the young died. Sashaya was forced to leave the village as well because the demons were turning against her.” I explained.
“Wow… Did any other people from the village survive?” He asked me.
“No only Raven, Jean, and Luke. The bad thing is Sashaya knows that they’re alive. Another bad thing is that Raven and her brothers think it’s a blessing that Sashaya also lived.” I explained briefly.
“Why haven’t you told them the truth then?” Rochata asked curiously.
“It’s been…” I hesitated for a moment, “It’s been hard for them losing everything. It would have been harder for them to know that a trusted family friend was actually not trustworthy at all.”
“I think it’s about time they learn the truth Ed. They’ve lived here for years now. I can talk to them, or at least start with Raven. She trusts me with all of her being,” He suggested, “Her brothers do trust what she says I'd assume.”
“You’re right. You can give it a go if you’d like, but you should be careful on how you say it. You don’t want to aggravate her,” I warned him.
He left the room and headed up the stairs to go see Raven. I watched him go for a brief second, and deep down I began to hope that Raven wouldn’t begin to hate me. Rochata was a smart boy though, and I knew he wouldn’t try anything stupid. I began to think about what a good relaxing dinner would be for tonight. We were going to need it when Raven’s anger erupted. Steak, mash potatoes, and corn were Raven’s favorite meal, so I decided that it would be the start of a lot of sucking up.
