Jean Cruxho

I heard Raven’s cries of happiness, but I didn’t know why she made them. I could only hear so much through the wall like any other person. Luke wouldn’t stop bothering me though; he really wanted to know what they were saying.

“What did Ed tell Raven?” Luke had asked me for about the tenth time.

“Once again, I’m not quite sure, but…” One fact lingered over me as I debated whether or not to tell Luke what I had heard clearly.

“But what Jean? Come on tell me!” Luke persisted.

“They think we’re too afraid of a fight.”

I saw distaste fly across Luke’s face. He was rather disappointed in what he had heard. I knew I should have stayed quiet. He looked as if he was going to blow a hole into the wall.

“Too afraid? We’ll prove them wrong! We’ll show them what we’re made of!” Luke burst out.

“Shhhhhh! Luke calm down. We don’t want Raven to hear us.” I said in a calming voice.

“Calm down?! How is that possible?!”

“We have nothing to fight with Luke.” I said trying to get him off subject.

“Raven has lots of weapons we can use.” Luke said quickly.

I sighed and looked out the window searching for an idea.  I saw Ed standing outside by the fountain. I looked back at my brother.

“Get your fighting gear on,” I told him with hesitation in my voice.

            “Right!” he said with delight.

We got dressed without making a noise and stayed far away from the window at the same time. When we finished getting dressed we waited by the window to see if Raven left yet. No sign of her anywhere. Luke ran to the door and listened carefully. He gave me a signal and I ran over to the door. I heard Raven’s boots marching down the hall and quickly down the stairs. I opened the door and stuck close to the wall. When I reached Raven’s room, I quietly opened the door, and my brother and I entered the room.

“You search under the bed. I’ll look in the closet.” I said as I walked over to the closet. I pulled out one of the black swords hidden in the back of the closet. The other was shattered from a collision with magic. Luke had pulled out a red sword from under the bed. I began to wonder where she gets all of these swords. I looked out of Raven’s bedroom window and saw her and Ed walking into the forest with Swift, our Great Dane.

            “Luke come on they’re leaving!”

We raced down the stairs and burst out the back door into the woods. We saw Raven and Ed go their separate ways which meant Luke and I would separate as well. I followed Raven, Luke followed Ed. I ran up beside Raven, but she wasn’t surprised.

“Jean if you and Luke keep sneaking into my room, I’m going to put a spell on my room that will hurt anyone who enters besides Ed and I.” she told me.

“We wanted to prove ourselves to you and Ed so we went to get some weapons.” I explained.

“Well if you wanted in, why didn’t you ask?” she asked in a haughty voice.

“We were supposed to be asleep, remember?” I replied.

            “No…”

I sighed and watched her dash off into a clearing. I stayed smart and low.

“Who are you?” she shouted out to nothingness.

“The figure of darkness and the bringer of death!” it exclaimed.

“Like hell you are!” she shouted, “Now state your purpose and your name!”

“Fine… I’ve come to inflict death on this community like my master told me.”

“Good you answered half, now finish it!” Raven persisted. She was always persistent with these shady types of guys.

Next thing I noticed the being lunged out at her. She quickly jumped out of the way but didn’t escape unharmed. She had a gash down her arm. She pulled out her sword, a newer blade that I have never seen before, and hit the hilt. One blade became two, and she slammed the hilts together forming a Klingon sword. I watched the fight closely for a while until it became evident that Raven would need help. By the time I hopped down from the tree, the being had Raven pinned to the ground. I kicked him hard in the chest, and Raven jumped up, and over me to stab him.

            “Call for Ed!” Raven commanded.
