At about noon, Jack took a break from selling that day and went back to the lodging house to check on Crutchie. Specs had made him a makeshift splint out of some wood and cloth.

"Hey, Specs. Where's Crutchie?"

"In the bunk room with Timmy."

"Thanks."

Jack walked into the bunk room to see Crutchie and Timmy sitting on a bed together and talking. Crutchie had his pants leg rolled up to his knee so the wooden splint would fit. He can't fit a shoe over it, so he looks funny with only one shoe on. Then again, he and Timmy are matching now.

"Hey, Crutch. How's the leg feeling?"

"C-crappier than n-normal. It's w-weird though. N-normally I have no s-sensation in my l-leg whatsoever f-from about m-midshin down and the r-rest hurts horribly, but I can f-feel all the p-pain in my ankle r-right now."

"Huh. That is weird," replied Jack.

"Haha I can't feel anything in my ankle," chuckled Timmy.

"That's cause you ain't got no leg, doofus," Crutchie said as he playfully punched Timmy.

So I've given up on this story. I'll post the rest of the parts I wrote and then do a summary of what I wanted to happen. It's not going to fully solve everything though.
