The Comeback

Chapter 9

*TRIS POV*

We lay on the floor in the express supermarket, catching up on what I've missed these past two years.

'I own a small house, just outside the fence... well I was bombed down about a year ago. I got a job in the city.. but I stopped going 6 months ago. There's something I need to tell you...' his deep blue eyes gleam with worry. I hope this isn't the point where he tells me he was with someone else while I was gone to get over me. No, stop Tris.. he would never do that to you even if you were gone.

I look at him concerned, he crouches down in front of me, gripping my hands and grins. 'I, urm.. did something.. relating to my fear.. of you know.. heights' phew, but why is this worrying him? It's a good thing. I notice a smile appear on his face, but a tear drops out of his eye.

'I did my fear, for you. Christina thought it was a good idea to do it, as you loved it. We went zip-lining. At first, my body wouldn't move towards the harness, but when Zeke handed your ashes, I wasn't afraid anymore. I climbed into the harness...' he starts to tear up even more 'and Zeke put your ashes behind me... and as I drifted through Chicago, you flew away like a bird. You were finally free. But now you're here, I don't understand who's ashes they were, but I thank you. Those two years were miserable, I missed you so much and everyone was just getting on with their lives it really pissed me off' we both end up in tears, I hurt him. 'And I love you... always' then our lips collided.

He cradles me for about an hour and wipes away any escaping tears. I break from his grip and the words roll out 'I'm sorry for being the most selfless and biggest coward you have ever met, how could I have done this to you, I broke you because of my selfish ways' my lip wobbles, the tears break out once again.

'You never broke me, I know you, risking your life for the sake of others, that's you, and I love you for being selfless. That is what makes you legendary' he smiles and kisses my forehead.

'I love you too, always'

*TOBIAS POV*

Tris drifts off to sleep in my arms. I stare at her face, she's beautiful and I'm going to do everything to protect her, she's never going to leave again.

I made sure that place was secure when we come in so no one can invade us.

I carefully loosen Tris's grip and walk over to the fridge for a bottled water. I stop half way, to discover a humming sound in some distance. 'It's just the fridge' I say to myself.

But it starts to get louder and it becomes clear, it's an engine. How could they find us? I took out the GPS tracker chip nearby Chicago. Lights start to shine on the glass panes, the vehicle becomes visible.

I drop to the ground and crawl over to Tris and gently wake her up. 'Tris wake up, they are here we have to hide' her stern eyes pop open.

'Oh no, they've found me' she cries.

'shh... no, they won't get you, come on'. I take her hand and lead her through a door that says 'STAFF ONLY'. I jam the door shut by putting chairs and filing cabinets in front of the door.

F***, I've left the truck outside, in the alley next to the supermarket. They will know were here.

We hear glass being stepped on. They're here. I give Tris a reassuring look but she doesn't look convinced.

I start to hear multiple whispering voices and none sound like Janine or David.

'Do you think they came here? I mean look in the fridge, there's fresh dauntless cake' a male voice spoke, I recognise that voice, Zeke.

'Well you know Four and his dauntless cake, they're inseparable' a girl spoke, then there was a chorus of laughter.

Tris looks at me and smiles. Are they really here? How did they find us?

This must be a trick. David is full of them.
