"I can do it louder!" Landon cries out, taking a sip of his apple juice. After a few second of silence and held in laughter, Landon's attempt to out burp our father is well achieved. Our parents applaud my little brother, but I hold my hand up to catch their attention.
"I bet ten bucks," My dads eyes widen, always liking a challenge, "I can go louder than both of you."
"No way!" Landon exclaims, sitting up to get a better view. I take in my Lemonade, allowing my body to let out the way I prefer. Once everyone heard my winning attempt, I stood and bowed. My dad also stood, pulling out his wallet.
"I should really stop taking bets with you." He tesases, while handing over my earned cash.
"You never learn."***
Skylar Sanders here. My family is small, but they are my everything; Brooke and Aaron Sanders are my parents, and Landon is my six year old brother. My best friends are Mae Dawn, who lives next door, and Connor York, who lives across the street. I have been friends with them both since I was Landon's age, but Connor and I got together when we were twelve. My parents are very laid back, but protective. My mom won't let me walk out of the house unless I have my house key, or my pepper spray. My dad works for a bargaining company, trading and selling is his life's work. My mother is an assistance for the leader of a book company in our town. Where we live isn't big, or popular, but it isn't small and deserted. There's a fair amount of people who stay in our hometown, but most come and go. I go to Knights High School, and I'm an average student. I'm not well-known, but people stop to talk to me at my locker. I play volleyball for my schools team, I'm their main spiker. I care about my image, but I am going to be me no matter what. Mae is the opposite; always caring about her image. She spends two hours just on her makeup; don't get me started on her hair and clothes! Mae's known at school for her organization, her attire, and her club; only for girls at our high school. She bugs me when she steps in to see me practice and I have sweat on my forehead. Connor is not like all the other guys. He's known for his football, baseball, and soccer skills. He shows his teammates what it's like to treat others. When his team members are picking on kids or treating others like their lower on the "Food Chain", Connor steps in and correctly shows them what the right thing to do is. He doesn't play games; in public or in secret. Connor refuses to play video games, not wanting to poison his mind with those graphics. He doesn't hide that we're together, and other girls know he's taken. He doesn't flaunt me, but he doesn't stick our relationship in a freezer and pull it out whenever its needed. My friends are my non-related family....
***
"You cannot wear those to the school dance!" Mae squeals when I show her my shoes. When I hold up the dress along with them she looks as if she's going to throw up.
"Mae, I'm wearing this." I laugh as pull them up to my body. Her face changes to disappointment.
"But it's not girly now!" She pouts, "The Converse make it 'boyish'."
"You're lucky you got me to agree to match dresses with you! I am not spending fifty bucks on a pair of high heals that I'm only going to wear for five minutes, plus, I think it's me, and so does my mom." I place the Original Black and White Converse back into their little cubby hole.
"I'll let you wear them, but don't get them dirty! Wait to wear them for the dance." She huffs before giving me a hug and grabbing her bag, "I'm not wearing nasty converse, I'll die before I wear a pair of Converse." She starts to walk out of my room, and I laugh as she hates on my shoes.
"I'm guessing she didn't take it well." My mom pokes her head in after a while of Mae leaving.
"What gave you that idea?" We both laugh as my mom sits on my bed.
"Well, when she snapped on me about letting you get those 'ugly, no standard, no glitter' shoes to wear with your dress, I figured you told her. Her words." She holds up her hands.
"You and I both know, I wouldn't last ten minutes in heals." I crash next to her.
"Sky, you wouldn't last three."
We both laugh, making our stomachs hurt, until my dad yells up the stairs.
"Lover-Boy is here."
I groan as my mother sighs.
"You know that's his permanent nickname from your father, right?"
"Sadly." We both laugh. Once my mom and I both leave my room, I head down the stairs towards my father. I place my hand on his shoulder, giving Connor a look of relief.
"I now relieve you of 'dad duty'." I kiss his cheek before grabbing Connor's hand.
"Now be safe!" My mom yells out as we head towards our boards.
"It's not like the Skate Park is dangerous!" I tease, looking back to see them snuggling close and talking about things I could no longer hear. As Connor and I took off down the street, heading to our normal spot, I had no clue what kind of rollercoaster I was going to be walking into when I got back home.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
