Just us, Right Now

I crawl out of bed, my limbs sore. Yesterday was so busy. Getting married is exhausting!
I stumble into my old homes kitchen, getting a bottle of water. Connor let us come home, as in my home, for our honeymoon.
"Nothing like watching your new wife walk around in your old T-shirt." I hear Connors voice and when I turn I see his smirk. He was leaning against the wall, looking as exhausted as I felt; we may have stayed up all night, talking.... "Especially when I can see those legs of yours." He comes over and holds me from behind as I take my sips.
"Shut up." I tease, taking in breaths. His arms wrap around my waist and I fold my arms over his. He leaves a few kisses on my shoulder, before taking my bottle and drinking also.

"Proposed?"
"Yeah!"
"What are you doing to do?"
"I really didn't want to tell you because I don't want to ruin your honeymoon... But we can't be together- because of his family- so, we're going to leave together."
"You're leaving?"
"Hopefully not for too long-"
"Where will you go?"
"We're thinking about heading down to Florida... Just till the heat with his family cools down."
"And what if it doesn't cool down...?"
"I'll be back." She slowly comforts my raging mind. "I promise."
When we got off the phone together, I broke down. I'm going to lose my best friend. She isn't going to be apart of my life, for who knows how long; could be three months, or even five years before they can come back.
"Sky?" Hearing the sound of Connors voice, I wipe away the tears left on my cheeks. I fold my legs in closer, and pull my blanket around my shoulders more.
"I'm in here." I look towards the screen, watching the birds look for more food in the empty bird feeder. He slowly comes into the screened porch, holding McDonalds.
"Hey..." He murmurs. He places his palms on my knees and I slowly turn and meet his gaze; I know I can't hide crying from him. "What's going on?"
"Mae.." I sniff, feeling the usual snot forming in my nose. "She's running away."
"What?" He sits down and I take the food.
"Gus proposed. And now they're trying to escape from his family."
"Hey," he tips my chin and smiles. "Our best friend is engaged." A smile forms on my lips, and I'm so grateful for him.
"I'm so glad I have you." I lean into him as I snack on my fries.
"And you're stuck with me."
"This will be a whole lot harder for you, than for me." I smugly reply.
"Tell me about it." The weight in his tone gets heavier.
"You have nothing to worry about." I sit up and kiss his shoulder.
"Yes I do." His lips tense up and he slouches more. "I'm going to be given the responsibility to care for all of Maatira. Not just a little bit at one time... All of it." He sighs,"I'm just a small town boy... I don't think I'll ever fit their ideal king."
"And I'm just a small town girl! We're both raised from the same place, remember?" I poke his shoulder teasingly. "You're always there for me. Now let me be here for you. If you need help, let me know." I grab his hand and his face turns sour.
"Your hand is greasy."
"Awe, can't even deal with a little grease. How are you going to stand?" I tease once more, and he squints his eyes, almost like a lion before attacking its prey. And that's exactly what he did; he attacked me. Once I scrambled out of his reach, I ran through the house, my chest burning from laughter. "Come here you." He chased me.
"Never." I yell from behind a wall, placing my back firmly against it; I want him to catch me.
"Gottcha." He jumps in front of me and places his hands on the wall, beside my head and shoulder. I can't stop smiling, which makes him smile, which makes me blush, and then he blushes. "You know." He comes real close to my face, to the point where I feel his breath on my neck. "I'd love to see you in my T-shirt again."
"Yeah?" My voice hitches as he barely runs his finger tip across the skin of my arm.
"Yeah." He smiles, which makes me giggle.

"OH come on! It's seven in the morning! Ava, what in the world do you need me for now?" I mumble, crawling out of bed. My eyes hurt from the tears, and all I can think about is getting back into bed again. I make sure my voice is down, cause I don't want to wake Connor. He sleeps with his back exposed to the air, and the covers sway down just barely over his underwear line.
Probably the most attractive thing I've ever seen.
"JOCELYN! Are you even listening to me?" Ava yells and I jump. I give Connor one last glance before grumpily, now, making my way into the kitchen.
"What?"
"We need you here now." She has a hard voice, like usual, but this is different.
"But, this is my Honeymoon!" I pout.
"I know sweety." She sighs, "I really don't want to break this time for you two, but I need to." I sit at the table and grab a donut.
"What's going on?" I say before taking a bite.
"We're getting threats."
"Threats?" I drop the donut and it hits the table.
"The Roseden king is underestimating you two as rulers...."
This is even more stress on Connor.
"Well, what can we do?"
"Your coronation," her voice chips up and then she lowers it. "Then we'll show you two how to stop war."
*
I went back to bed with a drainage of self-esteem and sleep.
"Where'd you go?"
"I'll tell you later." I yawn as Connor opened his arms up and I crawl against them. (Yes, he's no longer in that position... I'm disappointed too.)
"At least let me know you're okay." He sounds soft and gentle, but I know he won't let me sleep without knowing.
"I am now."
