"Man, Sky. You beat everyone you come in competition with!"
"Can't help it," I say, taking the cash from my last bet. "It's just a natural thing."
"Boasting seems to be in that category too." Connor comes beside me, grabbing my hand.
"What's that?" I place my free hand on my ear, "Is that jealousy because of your defeat by your girlfriend?" I play dumb, until he kisses my cheek. I melt for two seconds, before playfully pushing him away. He takes off to the other side of the park, to the little kids who need the confidence boost that they could get on their board. He looks at me as he talks to the kids, making me feel like I'm Mae.... Ew.
The thought of being girly is repulsive to me, but when Connor looks at me, I feel like it's okay to be girly at that moment. I wasn't paying attention as I daydreamed, not realizing I walked into the "Ring of Fury". This is the busiest section of the park; skaters flying in every possible direction. I'm knocked out of my haze, when someone's skate board hits me. As an after effect, I stumble, losing my footing on the edge and falling into the skate pool. Skaters yelled for me to move, but I was falling to fast for them to avoid me entirely. When I reach the bottom, I lay there dazed. I actually went numb for three seconds, all until someone touched me. Then the pain surged through my vains, and I let out a little wimper. I was in pain, and I didn't care how I looked. I slowly move to see the one who came to check on me. Connor. Of course.***
"Are you sure..." Connor hollars from his side of the empty road, "I can call a cab!"
"Connor, I'm fine." I reassure, my knees killing me. My scalp felt raw; considering a couple boards ran over my hair, pulling on it. My body was sore, but I didn't want the easy way out. I can get home on my own, without help. Connor knows I'm stubborn, and so do I. It's a flaw that comes in handy sometimes. Once we reach the street we live on, I dodge a car coming in my direction. Their horn blows and I huff about how great my day is going so far. My eyes get caught on the Limo outside my house, with several guards standing around.
"Maybe your mom got a new client...." Connor says, noticing my confusion.
"That needs fifty body guards?" Connor skates along side of me, "Something's wrong."
"Want me to go home?"
"No, I need a nurse when we get inside; and I prefer a good looking one." I come to a stop, pumping my board into the air so I can carry it. When I get the gate, with Connor right behind me, I get stopped by one of the guards.
"Ma'am, you may not enter." His voice is deep, and I get defensive. I send a look back at Connor, and I see him trying to hold in his laughter.
"Excuse me but, sir, I live here." I narrow my eyes, seeing him fidget under my gaze. "What's your name?"
"Johnathan." He uneasily answers, his coworkers whispering about him responding.
"First name basis, okay." I place my hand onto my chest, trying to make it simpler, "Skylar."
"Guys, this is Skylar...." Johnathan not so quietly whispers, like he was warning them.
"Yes." I dumb my voice down even more, "And this is Connor, Skylar's very important boyfriend. Now can I get in my house now?"
"O-Of course, Ma'am."
"Don't call me Ma'am." I pat his arm before walking off.
"Sorry, ma- Skylar."
"Good boy, Johnny." I smirk as I toss my board into the front yard.
"Dude, she's hard core!"
"I wonder how Mrs. Smith will feel about her."
That's it, I'm ready for a bath.
"Mom." I groan when I open the door. "I literally got ran over by skate boards! It's all Connors fault too." I teasingly look back at him, and he smiles innocently. "And uh, why is there a Limo out front?" I groan, sliding pass the last wall into the kitchen. I stop in my tracks when I see a woman standing with my mother. Connor, as usually isn't paying attention as he bumps right into me. I get pushed a couple more inches, and they both finally turn to me. I send a, "I'm gonna kill you later" look back at him as he holds his hands up in surrender. When I turn back around, my mom looks pale. The lady in front of her almost intimates me, making me stand up properly. Her hair is placed into one of those tight, fancy buns that someone else has to do for you, her dress is dragging the ground and her make up is beautiful.
"Skylar!" My mom snaps out of her freezing phase, walking towards me. She looks at me, taking in my scrapes. "What happened?"
"Obviously you didn't hear me complaining!"
"A princess never complains." The lady says, her voice thick and harsh.
"Well, I ain't no princess." I laugh as my mom sends a look up at me before proceeding to look at my arms. "I got ran over with skate boards." I groan.
"Skate boards are not for a lady." The proper woman adds again.
"Lady, who are you?"
"I am Ava Ivy Smith, I am-"
"A childhood friend." My mom glances at her.
"You haven't told her about me?" Her face looks as if she didn't care, but also like it was her duty to be here.
"No, I was trying to do what you told me to do!" My mother whispers bitterly through her teeth, making Ava Ivy Smith, or whatever, flinch backwards. I clear my throat, trying to remind the two that I am still standing here.
"I just want to take a bath, and go to bed." I start to head towards the bathroom, Connor following.
"Uh, why is this boy following you into the ladies room?" Ava speaks and I stop in my tracks, getting tired of this woman interfering.
"He's going to help with the cleaning of the wounds." I allow my voice to go deeper, mocking the way she spoke. I roll my eyes before walking off again. As I drag Connor away with me, I hear my mother and 'Ava' arguing about me being with a commoner. I had had enough of this woman, and once my body doesn't feel like I was trampled on, I'm going to find out who she really is.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
