"Well," he clears his throat. He slowly lowers to the ground. He releases one of my hands and pulls out a tiny classic black box.
"Oh my- when did you get this?" I screech out, tears forming in my eyes.
"My mother. That's why she came by." He lowers his head, noticing I'm stalling.
"Yes." My bottom lip quivers. "Of course I'll marry you!" He hops up and envelopes me into his arms. After a good five minutes, he let's go and slides the ring onto my finger. It is simple, exactly how I like jewelry. It has a simple skinny gold band and little flower bud with a diamond in the center.
"It was my grandmothers. And then my mothers. So, it's been passed down." He smiles and grabs my hand, his thumb crossing over it.
"How long have you had this?"
"I got it the night I told my parents I was in love with you." He blushes and I smile at the knowledge that I can do that to him.
"Oh! My! Gosh! DID HE JUST FREAKING PROPOSE! IN THE MANSION PARKING LOT? NO! NO CONNOR! THAT'S NOT RIGHT! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ROMANTIC AND SWEET AND PERFECT BECAUSE YOU TWO ARE PERFECT AND YOU TWO ARE MEANT TO TOGETHER!" Mae comes stomping into the parking lot, but Johnny grabs her by the waist and pulls her back. She's screaming on the top of her lungs and is already out of breath.
"Mae, this is exactly what I wanted." I calm her down and she falls to the hard floor.
"I just wanted it to be perfect." She starts to sob and I realize that it's a whole lot more complicated than Connor and I. Mae and Gus have been arguing about what they're going to do.. And they aren't going so well. I sit on the ground with her and hold her, as she sobs into my shoulder.***
"I'm so sorry." Mae wipes her nose and Connor and I wrap hands. "I ruined it."
"It's okay. What's a proposal without drama?" I wink at Connor and he smiles. I caught him up with the latest drama between Maatrias most unwanted couple. Minor with a major. Same problem I was having-only my parents are understanding.
"Okay, so I got the arrangements in place." Ava, my mother, smiles.
"And the wedding will be hosted at that church you've always adored." Brooke, my other mother, also smiles.
"Great." I smile and kiss Connors cheek.
"So, seperate." Ava and Brooke both command at the same time. Almost as if army soldiers, we both drop hands and step aside.
"The wedding is tomorrow, so you're not allowed to see one another until you," Ava points at me, "walk down the isle."
"It's tradition." Brooke smiles and pulls Connor away.
"Wait- tomorrow?"***
"Absolutely stunning."
"Really? You don't think it's too much?"
"No." He fluffs my hair and tears form in his eyes.
"Oh, daddy!" I start to tear up and he hugs me.
"My baby girl is getting married!"
Once my mother finally got my father to stop hugging me every five minutes, I stood and looked at my reflection.
"Wow." I mumble. Amazement covers my face and I'm in awe. My dress is the traditional white this time, and it is very puffed out. A light, and see through material covers my collarbone but the heavy and thick material forms a heart neckline on my chest. I'm not very big in the lady department, which never mattered to me, so cleavage was not showing. The clear material was decorated with diamondish jewels. But my dress was coated with them. My hair was in a tight bun and a feather piece stuck out as a decoration. My makeup was dark, but it make the dress pop more; if that's even possible.
"My beautiful girl, you ready to get married?" Brooke pushes down her bridesmaid gown. We chose blue and purple as the colors to decorate with, including the gowns. Both my mothers are purple and Clayton's fiancé's, yes, fiancé, is blue. Clayton proposed to the waitress he ran to the night I was granted freedom in this family, last week. Her name is Hailey and she's a very sweet girl. I made Mae my Maid of Honor, of course. Paul, Connors father, was his best man; everyone else he asked to attend, didn't show. So Johnny stepped up and took the place of his groomsmen. (These are the times Connor wishes he had a brother....)
"Yes." I confidently straighten my back and brush down my dress. I make my way into the small hallway that enclosed me and my father until the time came. I watched through the bubbled double door windows- the main of honor with the best man, Brooke walked alone, but Ava went with Tony. He even allowed Clayton to be in the wedding!
Then everyone on the outside isle grabbed a handful of rose petals in a basket on the side of their chair, and threw them on the walkway. It was absolutely beautiful to see and I think I squealed....
My daddy grabbed my arm and I winked at him and he smiled real big. When I was younger he taught me to wink when I was "ready". One of my favorite songs came on and I took a deep breath as the doors swung open. My eyes connect with Connors and we both stand in awe. My dad has to say my name to bring me back. The entire time I walk, my eyes never leave Connor. I have never seen Connor in a tuxedo... Never. His hair is messy, but a confined mess. He looks nervous but excited; just like me. After my daddy kisses my cheek- which allows me to be handed over to Connor as a wife- he stands along with the groomsmen. I hand the single rose I was holding to Mae and take Connors hand. Connor's eyes tell me I look beautiful, so I whsiper he looks handsome. I stare at Connor with the most ridiculous smile on my lips the entire time. I can barely hear the preacher over the beating of my heart. It all goes too fast, like a dream you don't want to wake up from! The vows, and "I do's" pass by so fast; feeling as if a blink of an eye, and bam, gone. Then I hear:
"Mr. And Mrs. York!"
Everyone's clapping and yelling as Connor leans closer to me. His hands are gentle on my hips, and I throw mine around his neck. It's so passionate, and I can feel how much he loves me. Then out of nowhere, Connor sweeps me up and carries me out of the main room. Laughter makes my chest hurt, but I wouldn't dare stop. He didn't stop at the end of the isle to put me down- no, he took me all the way outside. When I'm let down I push his shoulder.
"Mr. York, why'd you bring me out here?" I tease him.
"Mrs. York, I thought you'd want to ride away with me." I look down and see two skateboards with strings and old cans hanging on the back.
"You did this?" I purr, gripping his hand firmly in mine.
"Of course!" He helps me lift my dress off the ground, revealing my converse sneakers. I smirk at him as he just laughs. Once we both step on, we take off. We fail sometimes at holding each others hand, but we don't give up on trying to stay connected. I don't think I have laughed this much since this entire mess started... We come to the end of the drive way and we both pop our skateboards so we don't go head into the traffic.
"I love you." I give him a silly smile, and he pulls me closer.
"I love you." We're both inches away from each others faces, so close I can smell his minty breath. I get to smell that for the rest of my life, I think to myself.
"Kiss me already." I laugh, and he finally leans towards me.
But nothing compares to the kiss at the alter- and I don't think nothing ever will.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
