Coronation Day

"Quit whinning." Ava scoffs as she pushes me behind the dressing curtin.
"You interrupted my Honeymoon; I have a good reason to whine."
"Too bad." She huffs.
"This threat must be big." I say as she taps her foot.
"Hurry."

"You look handsome." I smile, "Well, not as good as you looked at our wedding." I wink.
"Same to you, my gorgeous wife." He smirks, "If I get to see you in these dresses for the rest of my life.. Man, I'm gonna be one lucky guy!"
I feel it. I feel the butterflies and the heart sinking desire for him. I feel like I can accomplish anything with him by my side. He links arms with mine and I can tell that his throat is tightening.
"I feel like I'm suffocating...." He breathes deeply.
"Just look at me." I connect our hands and turn his jaw towards me with my free hand. His eyes stay wide for a few seconds and his breathing stayed irregular, but once his eyes focused on me, he calmed down.
"You guys ready?"
"Yes?" I say questioningly.
"Yeah." He smiles sweetly, boldness spreading onto his face.
My dress is white, and net-like around my chest, but it fans out into a layered tan gown. I'm wearing my all white Converse, and casual white flowered earings with a diamond in the middle of the petals. The back of my dress is open, with a few fabric strings crossing my back.
I take a deep breath, readying myself for this adventure.
Johnny, and another guard, open up the double doors and I see everyone stand up. It reminded me of my wedding... But Connor was squeezing my hand.
"Prince Connor Ray York." A man with the most loudest voice ever yells on the stage. "And Princess, Jocelyn Ann Elizabeth York... Or Also known as Skylar Joe York."
"Prince." I shoulder bump Connor, trying to ease my nerves.
"Princess." He looks at me.
"Are you ready to be King?"
"No... Are you ready to be Queen?"
"As long as I've got you, I'm ready." I face the stage and take deep breaths before stepping out. I pull Connor with me and he allows a small laugh to escape. We try to stay as professional as possible, but both of us can't take the looks we're getting seriously. The men and women, whom we've never met, have blank expressions and show no emotion. Then Brooke decided to stand and wave above everyone's head, shouting "that's my girl!".
I waved back, and Connor and I laugh together. Connor shakes his fathers hand and kisses his mothers cheek once we reach their side.
"Now:
King William Anthony Charles Smith and Queen Ava Ivy Smith."
Soon Ava and Tony step out and sit down in the "big boy" and "big girl" chairs. Ava pulls up her flowing dress, sitting properly. Tony helped her, and the glance they share is almost... Love.
"Please, stand here." The loud man instructs us.
"Please stand for prayer." The priest comes out and we all bow our heads. After the prayer, we take each others hand and face the crowd.
"Repeat after me." The man before, once again, instructs:
"I, Connor Ray York, vow to protect this land, and these people."
"I, Connor Ray York, vow to never abandon them in times of need."
"I, Connor Ray York, vow to be an honorable king of Maatira."

Then he turns to me-
"Princess, repeat after me:
"I, Skylar Joe York, vow to stand for the people of Maatira."
"I, Skylar Joe York, vow to stand by my king and fight with him."
"I, Skylar Joe York, promise to help in times of need, or destruction."

***

"I announce to you:
You're new King and Queen!"

Wow. I never thought I'd ever see that many people cheer for me....
I look over and see Connor glowing. I knew he'd like this, he just needed a little push to get started. He takes my hand and we turn around.
Ava smiles with tears running down her face.
"You deserve this crown." She takes off her gift, and places it on my head. I give her a hug, even though it's not supposed to be done here.
"I am honored to have someone, such as yourself, take my place." Tony does the same.
"Thank you, sir."
"No, thank you, Son."

Before long we're walking out of that building, and back home; and by home I mean the mansion. Ava and Tony agreed to move out when they taught us all we need to know.
"So, what are we going to do about this war?" I sit beside Connor.
"Your parents only talk about taking up our army and fighting, but I don't want to start a war... I just became their king...."
"No matter what happens," I grab his hand, "we'll do it together."
He smiles and kisses my cheek.

Whether ruling a kingdom in Maatira, or living a simple, but also complex, life in knightston, I always knew I'd have Connor; and I do. Right beside me, either through war or peace. Our journey is just beginning. And I can't wait to see what's up ahead.
