Ellie's POV:
I was still nervous even though Ryder was alright. For some reason since he's worked here, I think he thinks of me as a friend now, and had lost the previous feelings for me that he had.

That bothered me.

I don't know why but I liked that he had a crush on me, I thought it was cute. And the way he would try so hard not to stare at me, but we both knew he would. I guess I liked the attention.

Not so much the staring, but I liked that he would do the nicest things just to make me happy. He still does, but I think he just wants to do his job, not win me over.

I think it's for the best. My dad probably wouldn't want me to date someone I work with anyhow.

This morning I walked out to the barn and saw Ryder by Vincenzo. "RYDER! STEP AWAY FROM THE HORSE." I screamed. Vincenzo was tensing up.

"Sorry! I just wanted to see him! Why did he buck?" He asked. "He got bit by a snake. He's fine though, he just needs to rest." I explained. He nodded.

"So I noticed that Emerald had been a little under the weather lately." He explained. I nodded. I hadn't really checked on the other horses much, just to refill their water and hay nets.

I walked over to Emerald with Ryder and he was right. By the looks of it, she was getting sick. I guess she'd been sick for a while. I don't know if she will get better.

I ran inside the house and Ryder stayed with Emerald. I called the vet on the home phone.

"You need to come over right away! My horse Emerald is really sick!" I yelled into the phone.

"Calm down. Tell me the address, I'll be right over." The veterinarian spoke calmly. I gave her the address and she did in fact come right over.

We ran to the barn and Ryder and I went into the house while she checked on Emerald.

"Are you worried?" I asked Ryder, who was hurriedly biting his nails. He nodded.

"I'm sure she will be okay." I said trying to calm him down even though I was a nervous wreck. "How do you know that?!" He screamed. I could tell that he was about to break down and cry.

"Sorry Ryder. I know how your feeling. She is my horse after all." I tried to lighten the mood. "It's not like you cared about Emerald! You only care about West and Vincenzo! Maybe not even West!" He yelled. I sighed and walked out to the barn without Ryder. The vet was just finishing her check up.

"Is she going to be okay?" I asked.

She looked at me blankly.

Oh no.
