Chapter 17: Why Would I Say That?

Katniss's POV:

We walked back to our house in a comfortable silence. Peeta finally breaks the silence when we step into the house.

"You looked so beautiful holding Avery back there."

"Thank you, but I'm really not beautiful doing anything. I'm just ugly," I say.

"Katniss Everdeen! Don't ever say that again you are a beautiful person. Have you ever considered having kids in the future?" Peeta ask.

"Not really. I'm still really scared. I don't even know if I want to get married or even for that matter date." After I said that I covered my mouth. I'm just so tiered that I'm not thinking straight. I can see Peeta getting mad of what I said. " Peeta I -" he cuts me off.

"What am I doing here then?" He says really angry. I've never seen him like this non mutting and he is scaring me.

"Peeta I didn't mean what I said," I tell him tears coming down my face. He is furious with me now.

"No!" He screams at me." You never wanted us to be together! You never loved me! I should've known that you would never love me. You were just using me in your game!"

"No I want us together. I do love you," I say crying really hard.

"Well maybe I don't anymore," he snaps at me.

"Peeta why would you say that?" I ask hurt by what he just told me. All the sudden Haymich burst through the door.

"What is going on over here !?!?" Haymich half yells.

"Nothing! Just get out.!" Peeta screams at him. Haymich looks shocked that Peeta would scream at him. As for me I have tears just streaming down my face.

"I'm going to ask one more time what is is going on?" Haymich ask. We all look at each other. Haymich waiting for an answer, Peeta not saying anything because he is to mad with me, and me just standing there broken having no idea what to say.

I start to walk to the door." I can't do this," I say still crying. I'm about to walk past Haymich when he grabs my arm.

"You aren't going anywhere sweetheart. Until you tell me what you tell me what you two are fighting about. The thing I don't get is you can survive two Hunger Games, a war, and you almost dead but you can't survive a fight with Peeta? Why is that?" Haymich ask looking me straight in the eye. I yank my arm out of his grasp and lose it.

"Because I love him!!" I scream and run out of the door. I didn't realize till I stepped outside that it was raining. It is cold rain. It doesn't help either that the wind is blowing making it even colder. I'm freezing and most likely going to get really sick or die. I hope I die. I don't have my dandelion anymore who loves me. I don't know where I'm going. Until I realize I brought myself into the woods. It's been awhile since I've been here. All the sudden I trip over something and roll down a hill like I did in the games. I finally stop when I reach a flat land. I know I'm by the lake because it has a lot of rocks by it and that is what I'm surrounded by them.I hurt so much from the fall and I'm really tiered so I start to close my eyes. The rain and wind seem to be even colder by the lake which is making me freeze even more. Who knows I might be with my dad again. No one needs me down here. Yes Prim and a few others will be sad, but they can survive without me. So thinking of that I close my eyes and let sleep take over my freezing body.

Peeta's POV:

"Because I love him!!" Is the last thing Katniss says before running out into the rain. I shouldn't of yelled at her or said anything I said. She wasn't thinking straight because she was half asleep. I feel awful now.

"Katniss," I say calmer and start to go towards the door. Haymich holds me back and says," Just let her go," Haymich says.

"Just let her go! She could get sick or worse I can't loose her."I say in a panicked voice.

"Peeta sit down ," he tells me and I do." Tell me what happened and then we will go get her." I nod and tell him the story letting a few tears come out." Peeta why would you ever say that to her! That is why she is like this! She most likely thinks no one cares about anymore. She lost all her hope now!" Haymich says to me.

"Then lets go look for her," I say. Haymich agrees and we go get our coats and shoes on. We step outside and it is freezing out. So that isn't good for Katniss because she ran out with nothing on.

"Where would she have gone?" Haymich ask.

"I have no clue. But let's go check to woods," I say and we head there.

"Split up. We can cover more ground. But don't go to far. If I find anything I will call your name," Haymich says. I nod in agreement and start to look. I think we are close to a lake because I can hear flowing water. But I can't see if there is one. All the sudden I hear Haymich yell for me," Peeta over here! I found her!"

I run over to where Haymich is and see him kneeling next to Katniss. I kneel down on the opposite side of Haymich. She has a few blood stains, scratches, and bruises. Her lips are also blue. I touch her hand and she is freezing.

"We have to get her home and warm before we loose her ," I say. So I pick her up and she cuddles into me as I carry he bridal style. So the whole way home Haymich and I switch off carrying her.

Katniss's POV:

I hear a crackling of a fire so I know I'm not in the woods. I open my eyes and realize I'm in my house. I'm not dead. Every inch of my body hurts from falling. I look at the clock on one of the walls and it reads 11:55 pm. Then realize I'm on the couch with at least 5 blankets on me.

Haymich is sleeping on one of the couches in the room and Peeta is sitting next to me on the floor holding my hand. I can tell he is sleeping, but he looks so uncomfortable sitting up sleeping with his head on the couch. All the sudden I sneeze and that wakes him up. He then realized I was awake also.

"Hey," he says. I'm still mad at myself for saying what I said and still hurt from what he said.

"Hey," I start and feel tears wanting to come out." I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I wasn't thinking straight. I'm just so stupid. I'm sorry," I finish and realize I'm crying.

Peeta wipes away the tears saying," Shh, it's ok. Also you are not stupid your a wonderful person. Another thing is I'm the one who should be saying sorry. I shouldn't have of said the things I said or yelled at you. I don't know what I was thinking." I give him a smile and sneeze again.

"Do I have a cold?" I ask snuggling into the blankets trying not to fall asleep.

"Yes. When we found you were freezing and your lips were blue. Haymich and I took turns caring you home. At least you are okay. If we didn't find you were probably going to die. I just panicked because I can't loose you." I just nod and let out a little yawn." Katniss it's midnight try to get a little more sleep." I just nod. He sits back in the same position he was in before.

"Peeta?"

"Yes?"

"Will you stay with me?" I ask moving so he can sleep next to me.

"Yeah," he replies and lays down next to me. I cuddle against him and I'm about to sleep when he whispers," Always."

A/N-
Katniss and Peeta had a fight. Will this continue or will they be ok?
