Carmen sat on the bridge a cigarette between her lips. She felt disgusted. She was back to where she started. Her busted lip trembled as the smoke puffed out. She felt so numb, he stole her everything. She could hear and ambulance off in the distance.
An officer walked up to her. "Madame, you can't smoke here."
"I'm sorry." She croaked dropping the left in the water. "If for a friend" she said to the officer trying the get up, the soreness returning to her.
The young officers eyes scanned down her body. It was littered in bruises, he felt an anger waft over him .
-------
Garrett held the cigarette between his teeth. Carmen snatched the cigarette.
"Don't start, its bad." She frowned
"You do it all the time." Garrett sighed laying in the bus waiting bench.
"Well I'm shit so it doesn't matter." She sighed lighting it passing it back to him.
Carmen watched him take a long drag, relief washing over his features.
He passed it back to her."You little asswipe, you've smoked before." She smiled slightly.
Garrett shrugged giving her her a hug and took off. Carmen sat there smoking and waiting for the bus. She planned on surprising Layden, he always told her how much he missed her.
---
A moan escaped Layden's mouth as the girl he just meet at the party rode him.
"Damn girl." He groaned as she continued.
He heard the front door but didn't think anything of it. He began the guide the girls hips, moans and curses leaving their lips.
The door swung open, Carmen stood there staring at the scene in front of her. Her already red puffy eyes began to sting with tears.
Layden quickly pushed the other girl aside and pulled on basketball shorts.
"Carmen-" he began.
"You can save it, and return to fucking your side bitch." She spat with venom.
She ran out the house, wiping away the tears. She ran by the time she got to the bridge she was tired of crying, tired of running, of everything.
----
Dahlia lied in bed sleep starting fall upon her. Then the piercing cry came from Silas. She went to get up when she felt the spot next to her rise."Shhh... Silas mommy needs to sleep." Zander said.
The door opened as zander left the room with crying Silas. Dahlia smiled snuggling back into the bed.
