"Edoras and the Golden Hall of Meduseld. There dwells Théoden, King of Rohan, whose mind is overthrown. Saruman's hold over King Théoden is now very strong. Be careful what you say. Do not look for welcome here." Gandalf said as they approached the city.
"You'll find more cheer in a graveyard." Gimli said as he looked around.
"Ah." Gandalf said as they walked up the stairs of the castle.
"I cannot allow you before Théoden-King so armed, Gandalf Greyhame. By order of Gríma Wormtongue. Your staff." the man who greeted them said.
"Hmm?" Gandalf said as he started to walk in. "Oh. You would not part an old man from his walking stick?"
"My lord, Gandalf the Grey is coming. He's a herald of woe." Tereza heard someone say.
"The courtesy of your hall is somewhat lessened of late, Théoden King." Gandalf said.
"He's not welcome." the advisor said.
"Why should I... welcome you, Gandalf... Stormcrow?" The king said.
"A just question, my liege.Late is the hour in which this conjurer chooses to appear. Lathspell spell I name him. Ill news is an ill guest." the advisor walked over to them.
"Be silent! Keep your forked tongue behind you teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm!" Gandalf yelled.
"His staff! I told you to take the wizard's staff!" the advisor yelled as he backed away and the guards went to attack the four behind Gandalf.
"Théoden, son of Thengel, too long have you sat in the shadows." Gandalf said as Tereza stood up and looked around.
"I would stay still, if I were you." Gimli said as Tereza looked around.
"Hearken to me! I release you from the spell." Gandalf said as the others looked at him.
"Hahahhhahahahah! You have no power here, Gandalf the Grey!" Théoden laughed. "Argh!"
"I will draw you, Saruman, as poison is drawn from a wound." Gandalf said.
"Wait." Aragorn said as he held a person back.
"If I go. . . Théoden dies." Théoden said in Saruman's voice.
"You did not kill me, you will not kill him!" Gandalf yelled.
"Rohan is mine!" Théoden said.
"Be gone!!" Gandalf yelled as the king hit the throne.
"I know your face. Éowyn... Éowyn." Théoden said as he looked around. "Gandalf?"
"Breathe the free air again, my friend."
"Dark have been my dreams of late."
"Your fingers would remember their old strength better... if they grasped your sword." Gandalf said as the king gripped his sword.
"Argh! I've only ever served you, my lord!" the advisor yelled as Théoden walked to him. "Your leechcraft would have had me crawling on all fours like a beast! Send me not from your side."
"No, my lord! No, my lord. Let him go. Enough blood has been spilled on his account." Aragorn said as he held the king back.
"Get out of my way!" the advisor yelled as he ran away.
"Hail, Théoden king!" the crowd yelled.
"Where is Théodred? Where is my son?" Théoden asked as Gandalf lead him somewhere.
Tereza walked around the city as she waited for Gandalf. She saw a shape in the distance and raised her bow as it got closer.
"Tereza!" Aragorn yelled as she ran out to it. "Tereza!" He ran after her as she started to come back.
"They had no warning. They were unarmed. Now the wildmen are moving through the Westfold, burning as they go. Rick, cot and tree." Théoden's niece said.
"Where's mama?" the little girl asked.
"Shh..." Tereza walked over to the kids.
This is but a taste of the terror that Saruman will unleash. All the more potent for he is driven now by fear of Sauron. Ride out and meet him head on. Draw him away from your women and children. You must fight." Gandalf said.
"You have two thousand good men riding north as we speak. Éomer is loyal to you. His men will return and fight for their king." Aragorn said.
"They will be three hundred leagues from here by now. Éomer cannot help us. I know what it is that you want of me. But I will not bring further death to my people. I will not risk open war." Théoden replied.
"Open war is upon you. Whether you would risk it or not." Aragorn argued back.
"When last I looked, Théoden, not Aragorn, was king of Rohan." Théoden said.
"Then what is the king's decision?" Gandalf asked.
"By order of the king, the city must empty. We make for the refuge of Helm's Deep. Do not burden yourselves with treasures. Take only what provisions you need." a guard said.
"Helm's Deep! They flee to the mountains when they should stand and fight. Who will defend them if not their king." Gimli complained.
"He's only doing what he thinks is best for his people. Helm's Deep has saved them in the past." Aragorn said as they went to the stables.
"There is no way out of that ravine. Théoden is walking into a trap. He thinks he's leading them to safety. What they will get is a massacre. Théoden has a strong will but I fear for him. I fear for the survival of Rohan. He will need you before the end, Aragorn. The people of Rohan will need you. The defences HAVE to hold." Gandalf said to Aragorn as Tereza walked in.
"They will hold." Aragorn said as he looked at Tereza.
"The Grey Pilgrim... that's what they used to call me. Three hundred lives of men I've walked this earth and now I have no time. With luck, my search will not be in vain. Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East." Gandalf said as he got ready to leave.
"Go." Aragorn said as the other two walked in. Tereza bit her lip as she prepared to leave.
