They looked after the riders until Tereza started to run to the smoke in the distance.
"Tereza!" Aragorn yelled as the other three followed her. "Tereza, slow down!" He placed his hand on her wrist as they got to the smoke.
"It's one of their wee belts." Gimli said as he picked up a belt.
"Hiro îth... ab 'wanath... (May they find peace in death)" Legolas said as Tereza looked around.
"AAARRGGHH!!!" Aragorn kicked a helmet and fell to his knees.
"We failed them." Gimli said as he watched Aragorn.
Tereza looked at the ground and bent down as Aragorn looked at the ground next to her.
"A hobbit lay here, and the other. They crawled. Their hands were bound. They ran over here. They were followed. The tracks lead away from the battle... into Fangorn Forest." Aragorn said as he followed the tracks on the ground. Tereza watched as she followed him.
"Fangorn. What madness drove them in there?" Gimli asked as he walked up to the forest.
"A battle...." Tereza muttered as she looked around.
"What, Tereza?" Aragorn asked as he looked at her.
"The riders of Rohan saved the hobbits by killing the Uruk-hai." Tereza said as the other three looked at her. "Come on." She ran ahead as the others looked confused.
"Tereza!" Aragorn yelled as he ran after her. Legolas and Gimli followed after Aragorn ran into the forest.
The four of them walked through the forest and Tereza looked around the forest. She looked at Gimli as he touched a leaf.
"Ptui! Orc blood." Gimli said as Tereza walked ahead.
"These are strange tracks." Aragorn bent down to the ground.
"The air is so close in here." Gimli walked up behind them.
"This forest is old. Very old. Full of memory... and anger." Legolas said as they heard groaning and Gimli raised his axe. "The trees are speaking to each other."
"Gimli!" Aragorn looked at the dwarf.
"Huh?" Gimli looked at the others.
"Lower your axe." Aragorn gestured to Gimli.
"Aragorn, nad nâ ennas! (Something is out there.)" Legolas said as Tereza walked over.
"Man cenich? (What do you see?)" Aragorn asked.
"The White Wizard approaches." Legolas said.
"Do not let him speak. He will put a spell on us. We must be quick." Aragorn instructed as they readied their weapons.
"You are tracking the footsteps of two young hobbits." the White Wizard said.
"Where are they?" Aragorn yelled.
"They passed this way the day before yesterday. They met someone they did not expect. Does that comfort you?" the wizard told them.
"Who are you? Show yourself! It cannot be. You fell." Aragorn said as the other three bowed.
"Through fire and water. From the lowest dungeon to the highest peak, I fought with the Balrog of Morgoth. Until at last, I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside. Darkness took me. And I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead and everyday was as long as a life-age of the earth. But it was not the end. I felt life in me again. I've been sent back until my task is done." Gandalf said.
"Gandalf!" Aragorn said as the other three watched.
"Gandalf? Yes... That's what they used to call me. Gandalf the Grey. That was my name." Gandalf smiled.
"Gandalf!" Gimli said.
"I am Gandalf the White. And I come back to you now at the turn of the tide. One stage of your journey is over, another begins. War has come to Rohan. We must ride to Edoras with all speed." Gandalf said as he lead them out of the forest.
"That is one of the Mearas, unless my eyes are cheated by some spell." Legolas said as Tereza looked at the horse.
"Shadowfax. He's the lord of all horses and he's been my friend through many dangers." Gandalf said as he stroked the horse.
