Louise's POV

"Louise, I love you." He said. He actually said it. Inside I was screaming and I tried desperately to hide the grin that was on my face. This was probably the best thing anyone has ever said to me yet, in the situation we're in, I need to put that to the back of my mind.

"Conor..." I said in a regrettable tone that wiped the smile from his face too. "What about David?" He looked at me confused. "And the police?" I looked down at my hands.

"He wouldn't do that, would he?" Conor questioned, but his face was saying 'it wouldn't surprise me'.

"I don't trust him. As soon as he finds out about us, he'll grass on your gang..." I said remorsefully. If there was one person spiteful enough to let it happen, David was the man.

"So what are we going to do, Louise? Pretend we don't like each other? Pretend we didn't just express our love for each other?" He pressured me. I can't imagine how hard this has been on him and I'm only going to make it worse.

"If that's what it takes... yeah..." I said, looking at the floor. "We only need to make sure no one sees us. If we're at someone's house, no one can know and no one can grass us up!" I looked back up at him.

"You're suggesting I'm like the hidden secret?" He raised an eyebrow.

"You're who I'm having an affair with." I winked. "Look, I've got to get back and pretend I care that David got punched. I'll try and visit every day but message me when you get out, yeah?" I walked back to Conor and kissed him on the lips, that fire in my stomach starting again. "I love you."

"Love you too!" He smiled as I walked out.

***

He was finally out, finally out of hospital. I got that message in the morning and my face lit up. He was alright. He was coming into school. We were ready for our plan to begin. I was going to pretend I cared for David, but I'd be with Conor. I needed my concentration at its highest; there were so many things that could give it away. If I looked at Conor differently, acted differently, got to close, was too far away it would all spark rumours – rumours that spread like wildfire!

"Had a busy weekend then, Louise?" Josh said as he walked into me, knocking shoulders.

"Probably a better one than yours, loser." I scoffed. I could hear the school gasp and hold their breath.

"You what?" He shouted but I kept on walking. "Oi!" He shouted after me. "You too scared to repeat yourself?"

"I think I've repeated myself enough, Josh. I can only punch you in the face so many times!" I laughed as I turned the corner.

"You just wait til detention!" He shouted back.

"Counting down the hours!" I shouted back. I smiled to myself. All I needed to do was act like I was still trying to impress Conor.

"Do you just like the attention or are you causing trouble again, Redford?" I heard from behind me. I wanted to grin, I wanted to spin round and hug him tightly – but not too tightly because he was no likely still in pain.

"A bit of both." I said as I calmed myself down and turned round to him. He looked so much better. His arm still in plaster and his wrist in a cast, I couldn't help but wonder if he felt lost without his hands because he couldn't punch people. The bruises and cuts on his face were healing. He smiled, but then looked around and wiped the grin off his face.

"So they're going to get you in detention? Better get your boyfriend to look after you..." He smirked.

"I'm more than capable, Conor." I heard from behind him. David walked round Conor and stood next to me, putting his arm round my waist. I saw Conor's eyes follow his hand. He wasn't pleased. I felt really uncomfortable; like I was cheating on my boyfriend in front of his eyes, but I know this is the only way it can go down at the moment. "You alright, babe?" He kissed me on the cheek. I let out a fake giggle.

"I'm great thank you. Glad you're here! How are you?" I smiled at him.

"Great thank you. I'm glad we're all safe and that. You'll be happy to know the police are searching for the gang who attacked us." Conor looked shifty. "Don't worry, I only said it was a gang. No names were named. Not yet anyway..." David smirked at him.

"You know I used to think you were alright. I used to think you were a nice man with good intentions. You're just like Josh." Conor snarled at him. David took a step towards him but I put my arms in between them to hold them back.

"Just remember, Conor, you mess with me and i'll call the police. You and your gang will be behind bars before you can say 'it wasn't me'. Understand?" He whispered to Conor. Conor and I exchanged glances before he backed off.

"Whatever you say." Conor laughed. "I'd knock the teeth out of your mouth before you even had the chance to dial it."

"You wanna test that?" David said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. Conor leapt for him and shoved him up against the locker, pulling David's phone from his hands and throwing it across the hallway. I smirked to myself before I remembered I was meant to be David's girlfriend and ran over trying to pull Conor off him.

"Conor!" I shouted, pretending to pull him off David. "Stop it! Get off him!"

"I thought he was meant to be protecting you?" Conor laughed. I ran across the hallway and grabbed the phone.

"Conor!" I shouted. "You want me to dial them for him?" Conor instantly let go and David tumbled to the floor. He looked pathetic. I mean I know Conor is strong and works out and is confident in how to fight people but David wouldn't stand a chance! David wouldn't even stand a chance against me. "Now go away!" I said, trying to sound angry. I walked over to David and tried to help him up but he shooed my hands away.

"I'm fine!" He shouted at me. "I can get up myself!" He snatched his phone from my hand without another word and walked away. I tried my best to keep up with him.

"What the hell is Conor's problem?" I said as if I was against him.

"He's an idiot. He's got no one and he's trying to use his strength against us, but I know one thing I can use against him..." David giggled to himself. That whole sentence wasn't really aimed at me, he was talking to himself. He had a plan, an evil one, and no matter what I said and did it wasn't going to affect it in any way. All I could do was hope it was nothing too bad...
