Louise's POV
I ran into school; my heart pounding, my hands clammy, my knees weak. I could already hear the cheering and jeering and shouting from the school as I walked in. I knew it could only mean one thing. Whatever David's plan was; it was working and it was working well. I ran through the hallways, following the noise of the students until I was greeted with a crowd of people – and I'm talking about 60 people – in a circle. I pushed my way through until I was at the front where I saw Conor being held back by Josh and Frank and David muttering some words to someone next to him that I didn't recognise.
"Ah Louise, you're here just in time!" David smiled at me. But this wasn't David. This wasn't the David I knew and liked... This guy was crazy and he was being influenced by Josh and Frank. He waved me over and I hesitantly walked over to him. He put his arm round me. I looked across to Conor; his face showing a cross between anger and fear, his fists were clenched but he was slumped over like he knew he wasn't going to win.
"Just in time for what?" I whispered into David's ear. I kept my eyes on Conor.
"I'm going to show how weak he is. Everyone is going to see how weak he is..." He said cryptically to me. I took a deep breath in and out as he turned round and the guy I didn't recognise walked back towards David and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Ready, man." This guy said to David.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the school... Most of us have been a subject to Conor's bad attitude; whether he's ignored you, walked into you, shouted at you, fought with you, he's made an impact in most of our lives. So I'm here to teach him a lesson." I was so nervous. I couldn't take my eyes off Conor, who looked so helpless. "I present my friend, Olly, and his best friend Jack!" My stomach dropped. I felt sick. Like really sick. Please say it's not Conor's brother. Olly walked out of the crowd with Jack's brother, his face so happy.
"Conor!" He smiled and went to run over to him but Olly held him back.
"Don't you dare drag him into this!" Conor barked as he tried to pull his arms free. I couldn't help but think of the night we were at the park. He was again held back from protecting someone. David really wanted to screw with his mind.
"I'll do what I want!" David shouted back, his arm remaining around my shoulders.
"David, come on..." I pleaded. "Not here, in front of everyone..." He laughed and shook his head.
"It's happening. Deal with it. He wants to mess with me, I'll show him who is King!" He walked me to the side so we had a great view of Conor and of Jack.
"Please, I'll do anything, just leave him out of this!" Conor pleaded. I could hear people in the crowd snickering and mumbling about how weak he was. I prayed this was a bad dream, that my alarm was going to go off and pull me out of this nightmare and I'd go to school and just witness a small fight between Conor and David before we all carried on with our lives – But this was real. This was happening. I was about to witness the breakdown of the guy I've spent my life watching be so strong and confident. Olly walked over and put his arm round Jack and Jack's face lit up. I just wished he could see this wasn't going to end well.
"Jack. Who is your friend here?" Olly asked him. Jack giggled and pointed over to Conor, then pointed at Olly and then pointed at me. I held my breath. He thought I was a friend? I was about to watch something bad happen to him and he liked me...
"Why do you like her?" Olly asked. I could feel myself going red. Please don't embarrass him...
"She has been really nice and made my brother really happy and that's good because my brother is the best person ever." He said. I knew they were going to make fun of him, Conor's brother had something that made him, well, an easy target for bullies. I heard some of the crowd say 'aww' as he spoke.
"Well, Jack, did you know that she was the reason your brother was in hospital?" Olly asked, a smirk on his face and his gaze on me.
"Yes, but she saw him and they are friends again now. Conor told me it wasn't her fault. It was David's fault." He said, twiddling his fingers.
"Well that's not nice, David, is it?" Olly teased. David took his arm from around my shoulders and walked over to Jack.
"Now, Jack, we know that's a lie. I'm the good guy!" Jack began to look confused as David spoke. "Conor is bad."
"Jack! Don't listen to them!" Conor shouted to him. Jack began to look nervously around. "Jack, they are all bad."
"Conor can't be bad. He's my brother." Jack said with a half-smile.
"That's not true. Did you know he hurt Louise?" David said to him. "Conor made Louise cry and that's why she is with me, because I am nice." Jack looked at the floor. David grabbed Jack's face and lifted his head so his gaze was on David. David's grip on Jack's jaw remained.
"You're hurting me..." Jack said as he scrambled to break the grip David had on his face, but David tightened the grip. "Oww. You're hurting me!" Jack's voice got louder as he scratched at David's hands. Conor's jaw clenched, his arms were tensed.
"Leave. Him. Alone." Conor snarled.
"Sorry, Conor, I didn't quite hear you." David said as his grip tightened. Jack let out a little yelp.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" The crowd went silent and Conor struggled to free himself. "If you hurt him, I will kill you!" He said threateningly. David turned to Conor and winked before turning back to Jack and punched him in the stomach. Jack fell to his knees with a thump and grabbed his stomach. He tried to hold back crying, but a few tears fell from his face onto the floor in front of him. David shoved Jack by the shoulders and he fell onto his back. David let out a powerful laugh.
"Shall I continue Conor?" David laughed before he kicked Jack in the ribs. The crowd were chanting and shouting and gasping but no one would help! It's like everyone wanted to see Conor break down; but I could see it in his face. He wasn't going to break down and cry in front of everyone... He was going to flip.
