Louise’s POV
Walking into detention for the second day running, I couldn’t help but already feel like it was a complete waste of time. What is this going to solve? If I punch someone what are they going to do? Extend my detention? I’ve already got this for a year! How is that even legal?!
“Louise.” David acknowledged me as I walked in the room. I looked over to see him sitting on his own.
“Where are Josh and Frank?” I asked almost instantly.
“How would I know? They’re not my friends…” He laughed as he stretched out and put his feet on the table. There was a small pause before he carried on. “So you’re here because you punched both of them?”
“Yeah.” I let out a small laugh. “I nearly broke Frank’s nose. Josh got hit about five minutes later by Conor…”
“Those guys…” He shook his head. “What a waste of time…”
“You got that right!” I nodded enthusiastically. I began to walk to the seat I was sitting at yesterday.
“Hey. Why don’t you sit over here?” He pointed to a chair close to him. “I think we got off on the wrong foot yesterday… We’ve got a year of each other’s company!” He gave me a small wink. Don’t ask me why, but I walked straight over there and sat down with one table between us.
“A year of this, huh?” I rolled my eyes. “I’m bored of it already!” I pulled out the book I attempted to read yesterday and put it on the table.
“You gonna be reading that book for a year?” He gazed over to it.
“Well I only managed one sentence yesterday so you never know it could take me that long… Maybe even longer!” I let out a small laugh.
“You know, I really can’t see how a girl like you could be in here for getting into fights…” His voice suddenly became softer and he looked into my eyes.
“A girl like me?” I questioned. Where was he going with this?
“Well you seem so nice and gentle, kind and happy, you know? Not like Conor; he looks like a fighting kind of man.” David shrugged.
“Ah, well thanks I guess! But it just goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover!” I smiled.
“And those two made you sound like some sort of maniac!” He laughed. “Like you just pounced at them for no reason and that’s why they didn’t stand a chance…” I shook my head.
“What happened on those two days are some of my best memories… We’d fought before so they knew I was going to get them…” I looked to the floor. “But I just got there first.”
“That bruise on your face…?” David asked gently, in case there was a horrific story attached to it.
“Oh that was Josh. He wanted his revenge for punching him… When we were on the field?” I asked, wondering if he was one of the onlookers.
“Oh I heard that, but I didn’t crowd round like everyone does… I went and sat with my mates.”
“Well Josh threw mud at us so I punched him, he finally got a punch in but then Conor came and finished him off for me… Split his lip.” I smiled at the memory.
