"A skeleton zom- what?" Dan asked, who was rather confused. I sighed.
"A skeleton zombie pirate school boy." I corrected him. He didn't understand my creative mind.
"Right? I guess I see it..." Did he live under a bridge, because surely he was trolling me... No... I'm so sorry you had to read that.

I stared at Dan, a little puzzled. "Really? Skeleton face paint, pirate hat, tie, blazer and shirt which is like a uniform and, uh... I like zombies." I justified my costume. Surely that should've made sense. Dan nodded.
"Weirdo." He muttered and smirked. I rolled my eyes and let out quite a pathetic laugh. A knock at the door interrupted our conversation. I headed over to the door and opened it. There stood Preston and Tabitha. We all went a little insane and they entered.

"Nice outfit, Dil!" Preston said, and chuckled a little. I laughed.
"Hey, it's creative okay? Just because you have no creativity and you're jealous of my costume." I joked.
"Whatever mate." Preston chuckled.
"Hey Dan." Tabitha said. Dan swivelled around 180 degrees on a breakfast bar chair and faced us. He waved.
"Hey guys. Nice costumes." He smiled, and Preston and Tabitha done a little pose.
"Do you understand Dil's outfit?" Dan chuckled. I rolled my eyes and the other two laughed.
"Haha, very funny." I said sarcastically in the direction of the kitchen. Dan smirked and winked.

We stood and talked for a couple of minutes before leaving to go trick or treating.

**********

We walked through the front door, bursting out with laughter. We looked and sounded fucking insane. Dan and Phil were sitting on the couch cuddled up with each other watching Attack On Titan for like the millionth time. They looked up and stared at us confused. The three of us were pissing ourselves laughing.
"What are you guys laughing at?" Dan asked. It took a while to get a response. After we calmed down, I finally piped up and replied.
"We were walking down the road just before here and we saw Erica and some of her lot on the opposite side of the road. Prest-" I laughed again, but then continued,
"Preston yelled 'nice costumes guys' jokingly and they all started getting shouty and rowdy, and Janet who runs the corner shop came out of her house and was effing and blinding at them, telling them to shut up and grow up. She went back into her house then a car went past... An-and..." I tried to hold back laughter.
"They were standing in front of a huge puddle and the car went through it and fucking drenched them!" Preston and Tabitha burst out laughing again. Dan and Phil chuckled.
"Okay, that sounds bloody funny." Dan said.
"Yeah, but Dil, did you have to swear?" Phil responded. I shrugged my shoulders and smiled.
"Okay, we'll leave you two to watch Attack On Titan, because you guys haven't watched that before." The sarcasm was strong. The guys laughed and with that, Preston, Tabitha and I headed upstairs to my room.

We spent the next 2 hours getting high on sugar and playing truth or dare. It all ended when Preston's mum came and picked him up. Then it was just me and Tabitha. We stayed in my room and talked for a while. I saw her glance down at what seemed like my wrist. Turns out it was my wrist, as I was twiddling with the bracelet with the anchor chain.
"Where'd you get that bracelet from?" She asked. Shit. Okay. She was going to find out at some point, but I wasn't exactly ready.

I looked down at it and reformed the eye contact with Tabitha. I stuttered a little.
"It was... Uh, it was my dad's bracelet..." Okay, first part out. Tabitha nodded slightly. She had a look on her face that looked like she wasn't sure what to say or do.
"What do you wanna ask?" She looked at me. Her eyes widened a little.
"I don't know if I should-"
"Just ask, it was gonna come out sometime." I smiled to reassure her. Even though I'd only known Tabitha for just over a week, I could trust her.
"Okay... Uh... W-what happened to your dad?" She sounded very hesitant. I glanced down at my carpet. I sighed.

"Well, when I was five, my dad went out to get some shopping because my mum felt a little under the weather. He was gone for a long time, 3 hours. Mum was getting really worried. Then-" I felt a lump forming in my throat. "There was a knock at the door and my mum answered it. Then I heard my mum screaming and crying." I looked down into my lap. I blinked a couple of times to hold back tears. I shook my head slowly.
"He was in a car crash. And... And was pronounced dead at the scene." I no longer had the will power to hold back tears. One ran down my cheek and I put my head in my hands. I heard Tabitha shuffle over and felt her arms wrap around my body, comforting me gently.

It was like this for a few minutes, but I didn't mind. It felt comforting with Tabitha being there. I liked it. A lot. Wait, hold on... Dil, stop.

A knock on my bedroom door made us stop hugging each other and jump away from each other a little, hiding evidence we'd being hugging for however long it had been.
"Yeah?" I shouted. The door creaked open and Phil popped his head round.
"Tabitha, your mum's at the door, she wants you home." He said.
"Okay, thanks Phil." Tabitha grabbed her bag of sweets and we went downstairs together, where we were met with Dan, Phil and Lisa.

"Come on Tabby, it's getting a little late don't you think?" Lisa said jokingly, smiling towards Tabitha. Tabitha giggled as she put on her shoes.
"It's only quarter to ten, that isn't late." She's definitely a night owl like me.
"Yes, but there's this thing you go to called school, which is tomorrow." Tabitha sighed and we exchanged goodbyes and she left. I turned towards Dan and Phil, well, just Dan. Phil escaped to the kitchen. Probably to steal some of Dan's cereal.
"I think you should go to bed soon too Dil." Dan suggested. I smirked. Everyone knew the answer to that one.
"I'll think about it." I joked. Dan chuckled and ruffled my hair. He walked into the kitchen.

"Phil! Really?"
"I'm hungry!" I was right. I laughed to myself and rolled my eyes. I slowly headed towards the stairs.
"Night guys!" I yelled in the direction of the kitchen.
"Goodnight." I heard Dan and Phil say in unison. I jogged upstairs and got ready for bed.

I jumped into bed and made myself a cocoon using my covers and laid there, thinking about different things. It was a fucking awesome night. I got to hang out with my two best friends and, yes, I did talk about some of my past but I felt kinda better talking about it. Also, Tabitha. I don't know. I have no idea. I've never become best friends, or at least good friends, with someone so quickly like I had with Tabitha, but it happened. I like her, but not in that way... Do I? I really don't know. Maybe...

Why does puberty and hormones have to be so fucking annoying?
