I can't give the baby away.
Sometime in the night he crawled on to my chest and gripped on to my shirt like I was the last person on earth. I watched closely as his small chest rose and fell. He looked so peaceful. I had to keep him, I had to give Caleb the life he deserves.
I rolled over a bit and grabbed my phone. I dialed my mom.
"Hello?" She spoke over some loud noise. "Jay?"
"Mom, what I'm about to say it going to sound completely ridiculous, but I want you to just listen to me," I took a deep breath, "yesterday a baby named Caleb got delivered to my doorstep, it's not mine, but he's so cute and I really need to keep him. What do I do?"
My mother sighed, "babies are not puppies, Jay. If you're really serious about this, then I will help you, but you have to realize all the responsibility a baby takes.
I nodded, "mom, I've grown attached. If I give little Caleb up, I can never forgive myself."
She chuckled, "I'll be there in ten...we've got a lot of shopping ahead of us."

After countless stores, diaper emergencies, and food breaks I was glad he could skip the whole pregnancy part of this kid. Mom and I had stopped at the food court of the mall to wind down."I never knew a kid could cost so much."
My mom simply laughed and my utter exhaustion, "oh this is the easy part. Now comes the actual taking care of the baby. You can't just feed the little fella and be done, you gotta pay special attention and give special care to your special little guy."
I nodded slowly, "only because he's cute, and will grow up to be a little heart-breaker." She grinned at me and ruffled my hair.
"Look at my baby, raising a baby," she cooed, "how did you find this little bundle anyway?"
I shrugged, "this little angel got left at my doorstep by some woman, she left a note talking about me giving him a better life and he's allergic to pineapple."
My mom nodded, "another grandchild is another grandchild, and Caleb will be part of this family easily. Another little Rivera."
"Caleb Rivera," I spoke glancing down at the drowsy baby, "nice name, huh?"
He cooed grabbing for me. I picked him up out of the stroller we bought first and patted Caleb on the back. He leaned back and grabbed my nose, "mama!" he squealed causing people to look and fawn over him.
My mom clasped her hands together satisfied, "Caleb, welcome to the family." He leaned over to my mom and made grabby motions at my mom. She gasped and pointed to herself, "you wanna come to gammy? Oh, come here you big boy." She grunted playfully lifting the child from my arms.
I sighed. I'm never going to get rid of this kid.
