"I don't have a boyfriend, Emmett." Trying to reason with my son has proven all but successful, apparently he's dead set on the idea that Jay is my boyfriend. I was trying to get a bit of work done, but he decided to jump on me and interrogate me for the better half of an hour.

Miranda just lounged on my couch and chuckled at my failed attempts. "Oh, for the love of god, we all see that you are smitten."

I rolled my eyes and attempted to go back to typing, "the intuition of a four year old, and some old lady who sits on my couch an eats my food means close to nothing."

Emmett huffed, "I want a brother."

I groaned and lifted him off me and onto the couch, "are we really back on this again?"

Miranda shrugged, "maybe he wants you too."

I scoffed, "maybe I need to take Emmett to day care now because I have work to get too. Apparently my intern can't handle a bit of paper work, and I have a meeting with a new client about selling some very lucrative land."

Miranda fake snored, "boo! Stop bringing your work home with you. If you're so eager then I could take little Em to school."

"No!" I paused and cleared my throat. "I mean, I got it." A light blush came to my cheeks in response to Miranda's knowing gaze. "I am not going to see Jay...okay, maybe I am a little bit...fine! I just want to be friends with the new dad, nothing wrong with that!"

Miranda's smirk only grew as I quickly gathered Emmett's things. "Let's go, champ."

Emmett grinned and ran into my arms, "can I go with you today?"

I shook my head, "if I take you with me everybody will only pay attention to you, because you're so cool."

Emmett sighed dramatically, shrugged his shoulders up, and placed his hands in the air, as he put on his best negotiating face, "can I go with Jay? He's the best in the whole wide world."

My refusal meant nothing to him as he practically continued the argument all the way to the day care. "We're here, champ. And look, Ms. Cara is waiting for you!"

He rolled his eyes and placed his hands over his chest, "I want Jay! I want Jay!" He screeched. His cries were cut short as soon as Jay came into view, holding a sleeping Caleb.

"Hey, squirt." He addressed Emmett. "Peter Grant." He gave a warm smile.

Emmett jumped for joy, "Jay! Daddy won't let me stay with you!"

Jay chuckled and looked up at me, "I think your daddy just wants you to be somewhere fun where you won't get bored," He crouched down and pretended to whisper, "but if you go in and have an amazing time, we might have a play date."

And that had Emmett sold. He stood back at full height and gave a brief wink my way.

My breath was caught in my throat, and for once I was at a loss for words.
