{PE T E R}

I stepped out of my car and smoothed down my suit.

Today seemed like a good day to do it.

"Hey, Jay-"

"-Hey Peter,"

We both paused and stared at each other. A goofy smile appeared on his face as he burst in to laughter, causing me to unintentionally follow suit. He gazed up at me with hazel eyes and ran his fingers through his dark hair. "Yes?" I asked half serious.

He paused and almost immediately his playful mood went away, and he suddenly seemed a lot more shy. "Well," he began, "I don't know how to ask you this."

We made our way into the day care. And purposely walked slow through the halls. "Ask me what?" I tried to keep all hopefulness out of my voice.

"Do you have a, um, wife?"

I fought the urge to laugh at how red his face went. "Nah, I've been, uh, gay, for a while."

Jay let out a deep breath, but I knew that wasn't all. "Same over here," he chuckled awkwardly, "we're like friends, right?"

I chuckled, "I mean, I guess. Only if you wanna be."

He nodded, "yeah...I mean, friends is pretty good, right?"

I nodded slowly drifting a bit closer to him so that my hand brushed against his, "mhmm, if you want to be."

He blushed all the way to the tip of his ears and cleared his throat. "So, where do you work?"

"I own a business. We mostly dabble in land ownership, boating, and a few chain restaurants." I answer vaguely. "Nothing too amazing."

"Okay, yeah, sure, owning an entire business is nothing too amazing. You still put your pants on one leg at a time," he spoke sarcastically.

"Okay, what do you do?"

"I'm a journalist," he muttered biting his bottom lip directly after, "though my mind has been super preoccupied, I haven't gotten a story written in like two weeks."

I nodded as the elevator dinged open. "That's a pretty good job."

"Nothing too amazing." he smirk with a little laugh at the end. I couldn't help the smile that found it's way on my face.

"Hey, Jay," I gently placed my hand on the small of his back to get him to stop, but that same blush came right back. "Do you maybe want to-"

"Daddy and Jay sitting in a tree," I was cut off by the obnoxious (but very cute) chanting of Emmett.

I groaned, but Jay just ate it up.

"Hey, kiddo."

Emmett grinned and practically tackled his leg's in a hug, "guess what happened to me today?" he yelled happily.

"What?" Jay spoke, probably actually interested.

Emmett tried to suppress some of the happiness before bursting, "I made Caleb my brother!" Jay snorted in a cute way and let out a small laugh.

"Since when is Caleb your brother?"

Emmett shook his head, "since you and my daddy are in love, Caleb is my brother!" he attempted to whisper. I watched completely amused as Jay's entire face turned red.

He gently pried Emmett off and placed him in my arms as Lucy, a girl who'd work with the younger kids, handed Caleb to him. "He's a sweetheart, Emmett barely let me touch him though, says he has to protect his brother."

Jay 'aw'ed and pinched Emmett's cheeks. "Aren't you just an angel." My heart warmed at the sight.

"So do you want to go on date sometime?"
