"Raelyn.." Elron cooed.
I watched him blankly as his comrades took their separate seats drinking ale.
"Will you please talk to me Raelyn." Elron tried again.
Elron wiped the scattered tears that ran down my face. Giving me gentle smiles and comforting me.
"That darned wench of yours almost got us caught." Gabriel accused.
I frowned slightly at his comment, and pushed Elron away.
"What would you have been able to do wench? If you got us caught, what would a measly wench like you be able to do." Gabriel scoffed.
"That is enough Gabriel." Elron ordered.
The group of men eyed me as I walked out of the room. I made my way into the room I was staying in at the time, and curled into myself.
A small knock at the door snapped me out of my daze. Elron came into the room and sat at the edge of my bed.
"What went wrong Raelyn, why did you break down?" Elron said lightly.
"It doesn't matter why."
"I think it does, as much as I hate to say this, we can't have you with us if you're going to be a risk."
"A risk!? Has Gabriel gotten into that head of yours?"
"Just listen to me Raelyn, I don't mean to be offensive. In some ways Gabriel does have a point, what would you have done if they had seen us."
I sat up. I was growing furious at the impossible behavior of these men.
"Is that what you all think. That I am some threat to you now! At least I had enough courage to attempt and help that old man. What did you noble and mighty gentlemen do? You sat there, ready to watch the killing of an innocent beggar. Yet I somehow pose a threat." I spat towards Elron.
"In my eyes you all are nothing but cowards." I accused.
Elron sat up abruptly, making his way to where I was sitting. He gripped my arm sharply and dragged me out of the room.
"What are you doing Elron?" I whispered.
I grew nervous as we drew near the rest of his group.
He pulled me up next to him as he cleared his throat, gaining attention from the rest of the group.
"It appears my fellow companions, that Raelyn believes us to be cowards. Do you find us to be as vile as the king too?" Elron announced.
"I never said that." I stuttered.
"You deny calling us cowards."
"No, I did call you cowards; however, I did not say you were as vile as the king."
"If anyone is a coward it is the king! Do you know how many people we have saved from his attacks. If I am correct you happen to be one of them, or is your pride too great to remember being saved by me."
Elron pushed me away from him. I stumbled, shocked, but I did not fall.
"My fellows if we are viewed as cowardly I suppose we should change that. Come with me!" Elron ordered his eyes filled with fiery rage and purpose.
The men exited the room. Before Elron could exit I grasped his hand.
"Elron please, I meant no harm in what I said. I do not deeply feel as though you are cowards, my anger got the best of me. Please don't do anything rash." I begged.
"Tell me what was wrong and I will accept your apology."
"But that is none of your business Elron."
"How do you expect to grow our friendship if you can't even comprehend sharing a detail about your life with me."
I stopped for a moment, allowing myself to think.
"Fine.. I will tell you." I said reluctantly.
He nodded his head and called his friends back into the room. After explaining to them, he dragged me outside to talk privately.
"So, Raelyn. Do tell what is wrong."
"I guess when I saw the old man get stabbed, it reminded me of something."
"Reminded you of what."
I swallowed and took a deep breath trying to steady myself.
"I suppose I pushed some memories out of my head, and when I saw that, they all came flooding back."
Elron nodded for me to continue.
"My grandfather was killed the exact same way. I watched him die when I was younger the exact same way. Only I was sailing away on a boat, and I couldn't do anything about it. I could have helped that older man."
My eyes began to water and tears started to stream down my face.
"It was not your fault Raelyn, you escaped with your family did you not?"
I sobbed and shook my head no. "My village was burned to the ground."
Elron engulfed me into a hug and I sobbed into his shoulder.
"Any idea of who did it?"
"I can't think of them right now, my memory is a little foggy."
Elron's embrace tightened and he kissed the top of my head.
"I apologize for having you retell that painful story to me. I promise Raelyn, I won't let anything happen to you."
I stepped away and wiped my tears. I gave him a small smile, and kissed him lightly on the cheek.
"You know Elron, you are the closest thing I have had to a friend in a long time."
He gave me a huge grin.
"I know I am irresistible but try not to fall in love with me." Elron jested.
"It won't be that difficult." I laughed.
Elron and me talked for the rest of the night, sharing different things with each other.
I wouldn't admit it. But I was so very glad for Elron.
