I lay awake staring at Elron's sleeping face. Leaning down I softly placed my hand on his face, gently stroking it along his face.
I let out a soft sigh and rolled onto my back. The dream about John and Kassiana seemed too real. The bloodied house and their lifeless bodies lying on the ground. I shivered just thinking about the scene.
I knew that Christian could have been bluffing, but could I really risk it? If something really had happened to them, I couldn't help but blame myself.
I couldn't take it anymore, I had to go back home.
Getting up quietly, I took out a piece of paper, and a pen.
Finally deciding what to write, I began: 'Elron, I must head home for a short while, I cannot bare to think something has happened to my family. Please do not fret, I promise I will return, wait for me. I will miss you, dearly. ~ Raelyn'
I hesitantly placed the writing down on the table and gathered some items before heading towards the door.
I took a fleeting glance behind me and an emptiness swept over me. I closed the door softly behind me before I changed my mind.
I swiftly went down the stairs of the inn.
I asked the innkeeper for directions before heading out for my long journey home.
Had I borrowed one of their horses, I would not have gotten far with my lack of riding skills.
I hopped onto the back of a carriage as it led me as far as it could closer to my home.
---
Each night and each day was a long one. The wound on my side was becoming irritated as the carriage rides were the only sense of relief I had. Although they caused me huge back aches sleeping in them.
I prayed day and night for them to be safe, and I prayed for Elron to be alright with my decision.
---
After many days of traveling I finally arrived to my village. I held my side and walked as quickly as I could to the small home and trading post I knew and loved.
I arrived at my home and I knocked on the door.
Waiting in anticipation for the door to open.
I heard footsteps and I saw the door crack open, the familiar face of John appearing before me.
"Raelyn?" John asked his face pale, "We thought you were dead."
"No, how could I be?" I questioned engulfing him in a hug.
"Kassiana" John called. His eyes tearing up.
Kassiana appeared behind me shocked, she ran up and joined our hug.
"Don't you dare give us a heart attack like that ever again! We didn't have a clue where you were." Kassiana sobbed.
"Have you not received any letters of my whereabouts?" I asked.
"We have not, we only waited day after day for you to return." John replied.
Elron lied to me, my heart dropped. He promised he would notify them, but he didn't. I shook it off, and tried to focus on what was important. It must be a misunderstanding.
"Oh when General Christian arrived and told us you had been attacked by some bandits, my heart almost stopped." Kassiana said taking my hands in hers.
