Reckless

Chapter 17

   

I wobbled through the door I was dragged through, my watering eyes blurring my view.  I walked back to the location where the group originally was.

I entered the room where they were situated as quietly as possible. Multiple heads turned my way as I shut the door behind me.

"Have you seen him," I questioned.

"He is over there," Stevian pointed. "You are lucky Gale is a doctor." Stevian shot, seeming angry with me.

"It wasn't entirely my fault," I mumbled.

I stumbled to the back of the room and Elron and I made eye contact.

He closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

The only thought going through my head was that I was a disgusting "monster".

Elron seemed to sense this, "Raelyn, it's okay, it's not your fault." He said sending me a small smile.

"But, I killed her Elron." I whispered.

He closed his eyes, and nodded painfully as Gale fed him a sour smelling tonic.

"You are lucky that witch didn't know how to use poison, Elron." Gale said angrily.

Elron silently nodded then ask Gale to leave. Gale shot me a look of sympathy? before leaving..

"She may not know how to use poison, but it still hurts quite a lot." Elron said laughing quietly.

"I am so sorry Elron, I keep messing up. How can you ever forgive me?" I asked, tears threatening to overflow.

Elron's eyes grew dark, and his small smile dissipated, "Who said I forgive you?" He questioned.

My heart dropped, and my mouth opened as I stumbled to create a reason why.

Elron's solemn face cracked, and he let out a hearty laugh which turned into a coughing fit.

"That was too funny, Raelyn. The look on your face, that was quite amusing." Elron said cheekily.

I lightly slapped his arm, "Don't play with me like that, my heart dropped." I held my hand over my heart to steady it.

Elron laid back, and he furrowed his brows as though in deep thought.

"My sister," Elron started, " A few years ago, she was injured greatly."

"What happened?" I asked, curious as to the sudden subject change.

"I suppose I should start from the beginning.."

"Please do.."

"I met a girl once, she was quite a beauty. Shoulder length blonde hair, deep hazel eyes, and a gorgeous smile. Her name, was Gracelyn."

My heart clenched slightly as he described this girl who was not me.

"When we met, it was like fate connected us, we had so much in common, we grew to know so much about each other. I loved her, and she loved me."

My eyes dropped to the floor, I felt quite awkward with him talking about his love for another,  I cleared my throat, "I am guessing something happened?"

Elron nodded slightly, "After we confessed our love to each other, she had an accident. She was by a river, helping Teresa collect flowers." He paused, remembering the events. "Teresa slid on a rock, and was going to go tumbling into the water but Gracelyn stopped her, taking her place."

"Was she alright?" I questioned worried.

"In a way, she had a traumatic head injury. It changed her physically, her long flowing locks were gone due to stitches, and her bright demeanor was diminished. Of course, I still loved her, but it wasn't enough." He cleared his throat, "One day, when I returned to my house I found Gracelyn carving sickening words into Teresa, screaming that it was her fault. I didn't take the time to think my decision through, I killed her. No mercy. Not even though she was someone I loved." Elron spat coldly.

I was afraid to say anything, I wasn't sure what to say. This must've been why he didn't say I love you back, but I don't hate him for it. I glided my hand down his arm and grasped his hand in mine, squeezing it reassuringly.

He smiled softly at me, "I know this is going to be difficult for me; however, I think I have caused you to suffer long enough."

Elron cupped my head in his hand and kissed me. After the kiss, Elron looked at me with wonder filled eyes.

"I really truly lo-" 

Our moment was interrupted by the door being broken down by guards. Barging in the guards grabbed us one by one as we tried to fight back. 

"Raelyn!" I heard Elron call out as we got dragged separate ways.
