I have no idea how to play water polo or dive, so I thank Wikipedia and all the hot people in Men's Water Polo. *fans self

After I brushed my teeth, I plopped down on the bed next to Zack to turn on the TV.

"Um, hello? It's all going to be French." Zack reminded, slowly, putting my remote down.

"Right." I blew a raspberry and laid against a body pillow. "Can you order room service?" I asked and he nodded, reaching across my body to reach the phone.

I waited patiently for him to be done. "That was horrible French, by the way." I teased, poking his side.

"Better than yours, and you've been to Paris more than ten times." He rolled his eyes and faced me.

"So why did you throw up anyways? You never get jetlagged, or you throw up in the plane and you're done" He said in a concerned tone.

"Well, she asked about my parents." I said, facing the TV. It wasn't on, but I could see myself with messed up hair and no makeup on my face.

"Your parents? What about them?" Zack asked. I sighed, I forgot I never told him anything about them.

"I haven't talked to them since I left to move here, so two years ago." I kept my gaze unfocused and straight ahead, not turning around.

"Skyler? Are you okay?" Zack asked, shifting closer.

I shook my head. "I'm fine. Um, I haven't talked to them. In a long time. And I haven't even thought about them in months. She brought it up though."

"Wait, take me back. Who's 'she'?" Zack asked. "Jay and Hunter's mom. The person who I've went on a date with?" I asked.

"Oh." Zack leaned back, but his eyes told me to continue. "Well, she wanted to meet them. I guess it's customary and traditional since I met her. But I couldn't. I just-" A stray tear slipped down my cheek.

"Skyler. . ." Zack said, scooping me into a hug. I leaned against his chest and felt his warm breath on the top of his head.

"Is it even right that I'm getting out in the world again? I feel like this whole dating thing is a huge mistake. I mean, he has such a perfect family." I sniffed. Despite Zack's arms around me to keep my temperature from dropping too rapidly, I hugged myself in self-comfort.

"Well, you know that everyone has skeletons in their closet." Zack said. "But his mother is so nice. I haven't met his dad yet, but I don't know. Hunter is close to his mother and I bet their whole family is close to each other." I sighed and Zack hugged me tighter.

"Well." He blew out a minty puff of air. "See? Even you don't know what to do." I said grumpily and pouted.

"Me? What does this have to do with me?" He asked, leaning back.

I shrugged. "You never told me about yours, where are they now?" I asked and he shook his head.

"I don't want to talk about it." He said flatly.

"Zack, what really happened?" I asked softly, twisting out of his arms so I was facing him.

He shook his head again and looked out the window.

"My mom is dead. My dad's in jail." He said, his eyes the most emotionless I've ever seen them.

"What happened?" I asked. "Well, my mom drank too much and so did my dad. Then I guess when I was 14, he just shot her. So being the idiot I was, I called the police and suddenly, I was bouncing around in foster homes." He laughed harshly.
