Deadpool was great.
I couldn't say I was disappointed but Jay did look at me weirdly when I said I never went to the premiere. I didn't know those actors. Any of them, was my weak and feeble excuse.
"So, what do you want to do now?" He asked as we walked out the movie theater.
"Central Park?" I asked suddenly and he nodded. "That's not a bad idea, actually. Want to walk there?" He asked and I hesitated.
Walking increases my chances of people figuring out who I am. But driving would take hours due to the famous New York traffic jams.
"Yeah, let's go." I agreed and we set off, walking. The silence was starting to become awkward so I filled it in by talking.
"Is Caprina your girlfriend or something?" I blurted out, the words pouring out in a rush. God. Did I actually say that?
"What?" His head snapped to look at me bewilderingly. "I'm on a date with you, remember? How would she be my girlfriend?"
"Ummm," My mouth dried. "Are you jealous?" He chuckled and I shook my head way too fast. "Just wondering." I covered up and he chuckled, looking away.
"What about you?" He asked and it was my turn to look confused. "I'm. . . on a date with you." I said lamely, repeating his earlier words.
"Uh huh," his eyes twinkled and I saw a glimpse of building lights reflected in his eyes.
"So, um, why did Meadowland look pissed with you?" I asked. That was the one question that was dancing in my mind for a long time now.
He shrugged. "He thinks I don't participate enough."
"Do you?" I challenged, raising an eyebrow. He gave me a wary look. "You're not going to go tell me how I should be grateful for my education, are you? That I should 'utilize my time' or whatever because you're a model and you don't have time and I do?"
"No," I ducked my head, feeling a little embarrassed. I was only asking because it takes someone a lot of determination to get up early in the morning to have a chat with a teacher. I'd know from experience.
Are models really perceived that badly?
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. It's just what I hear everyday sometimes." He apologized profusely, running a hand through his messy hair.
My eyes followed that moment until he continued with his explanation. "Some people know my dad's the chief executive whatever of Folly-"
"Foley, like your last name?" I asked. Last I checked, Foley meant plunderer in terms of etymology.
"No, like with two L's. You know, like In Praise of Folly?" He reminded me. Maybe he was trying to tell me that not everything is branded with everyone's last names. I've a lot to learn about that.
"Right. And you said your grandpa started the company, right?"I asked and he nodded.
"So yeah. Folly means recklessness, foolishness, as you might know. And that's basically our logo. I think I can remember our last ad." He closed his eyes as we walked inside the park. The streetlights cast shadows on his face. I took the time to stare as he exhaled and recited his brand's ad.
"Lose your sense. Be foolish. Make action. Folly." His eyes opened again and I had to pretend that I wasn't just staring creepily at his face.
"Actually, you know what would be a good idea?" Jay's eyes lit up and I saw the businessman look in his eyes.
