"Yeah, I'm at the video store now... Slow down, Morgan... Look, as much as I want to see another generic action film, Zoë's with us tonight. I need something we can all watch... No. That's practically porn. You know what? I'll find us a film..."

The video store might be archaic, but it was a small town, so it took a little while for change to catch up. And sometimes, you have to appreciate things before they get too old and out of place. That was something his dad used to say... Owen began scanning the shelves... He gingerly touched the spine of each box as he searched through the DVD's. His hand suddenly met another's, and movies fell to the floor. The girl had dark brown hair and soft green eyes, and her hair was rebelliously tinted green along her bangs. She wore oriental bracelets and a top with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. They both reached for the empty boxes at the same time. And their heads collided.

"Oh fuck... I am really sorry, I'm such a klutz!" Owen was a bit taken back, but smiled.

"It's no problem... I should be apologising, I wasn't paying attention... Daveigh, from the lockers, right? I swear you're following me." He asked.

"If only you were so lucky..." She winked. "You know, I usually don't see cute guys in the drama section. I'm guessing you aren't here for yourself... Perhaps a friend?"

"Wow, you're good."

"Or I heard a bit of your phone call..." She winked. "What's she into?"

"If it has horses or tragic endings she'll like it." Owen said, nursing his head.

"Uhm..."

Daveigh got off the floor, and put the fallen boxes in their place. She squinted, but lit up as she found one...

"Here! Tragic endings and horses!" Daveigh said.

"Oh good, can I have a noose with that while you're at it?" Owen said sarcastically.

"Yeah, your girl wise guy." Daveigh said.

"She's not... Well, I liked her at one point, but it's not like that."

"Oh, you got rejected!" She giggled.

"I... No! Well... Yes, but that's beside the point. That was a long time ago." Owen said.

"Ah... Okay." She said. Daveigh smiled cutely.

"Look, uhm... Thanks for the help and... Yeah, sorry. I've gotta run."

"W-wait!" She said.

"Yeah?"

Daveigh pulled her best puppy face. "Come to the dance with me. As my date. I don't know anyone and I'll die if I have to sit there awkwardly and you're nice."

"Only if you never pull that face again." Owen laughed.

"Is that a yes?"

"Maybe." He winked.

"I swear to God, you are so frustrating!"

"But you find me cute."

"Maybe I do."

"Yes."

"What?"

"It's a date. I'll meet you there, Daveigh. But I am a totally horrendous dancer so you might be in for a horrifying evening of actually talking to me." Owen said.

"I think I'll manage." She smiled.

"Well then. I think it's time I go face my universal karma and go watch this awful film with my best friend and his ex."

"Try not to die, I'd be bummed if I drove the first person I met in this two to suicide."

"You should have handed me a better movie then." He smiled.

Owen paid for the film, and walked out.
