Morgan frantically scribbled on the floor. Alyssa was fading in and out of consciousness, and Owen suddenly felt a lot more sober.

"So, who's explaining this to me when we get back?" Owen said, nursing his temples.

"Be happy to if we get to live. First job I've taken in months. You know, I should start making policies about taking jobs from demons." Morgan grumbled.

"The fact that you just said that in neither a metaphorical nor ironic context both angers and frustrates me. Also, what in fuck's name are you even doing, Morgan?" Owen glared in disbelief.

Morgan stopped for a moment to ponder. Then decided on, "I'll tell you when I'm done."

"I swear to God... Can I even say that? Does he exist? Or should I be... I don't know. Man. This is a bit much. Like I knew I was a secular humanist but... I don't know man."

"Just because there are things you might not understand as well as you'd like, doesn't mean you have to attribute it to any deities. For all we know the throne of God is either still empty or occupied by a voyeur and a sadist."

Alyssa stirred and sat up straight. Owen sat down in exasperation. "Morgan, I'm never getting drunk with you again. I mean it. Bad shit always goes down."

"Can't say I don't know how to party."

"I feel like I've been roofied and I just woke up in someone's creepy ass basement. The last time we got drunk together... Well..." Owen paused. "Which reminds me... Where in the fucking fuck are we Morgs?"

Owen only looked around properly for the first time now... The sky was empty. It was barren. Wherever they were, it was like no light could even reach them, like they were too far from anything to even be considered existing at all. It was ominous, and a little bit like the spot where you'd watch the world end from and knowing you're the last little dot anywhere. The ground around him supported no plant life, but somehow there were minerals and crystals embedded into the rock. They seemed brittle but if you looked at them long enough, it was like they were humming, and it was low and soft and sad. The rocks were maroon, but unlike soil rich in iron, it was colder and more lifeless. Like it was simply waiting to fade out of existence. Everything here was just waiting... He supposed it could be for a star or a moon or a sun to show up in the sky.

"Limbo..." Alyssa answered his question. "And I'm okay, thanks for asking." Alyssa said.

"Neither of us cares." Morgan spat out.

"I care a little." Owen sheepishly said.

"Thank you. You know, I don't know if I should take comfort in the fact that the most caring person here is an inebriated minor. Which speaks volumes about my life, but whatever."

"Owen, stop caring."

"No. I care. She's cute. In fact, I kinda care more about her than you right now Morgan."

"I like him." Alyssa laughed.

"Let's just get out of here." Morgan sighed.

A huge booming voice sounded out. Alyssa turned pale and Owen suddenly wanted to puke. It was demonic and cruel.

"Alyssa, welcome to your new hell, I'm going to enjoy fucking the new holes I'm gonna make in you..."

Alyssa's eyes turned black, then her skin lost its colour and a black halo appeared above her head. Black wings made seemingly out of nothing but living darkness unfurled from the shadowy nothingness between her shoulder blades, and cradled inside the elbow joint were two demonic ruby eyes frantically scanning in every direction, scarily autonomously so. She waited. The voice said nothing further. A crack opened below her and she stumbled back. Hands poured out of the crack in front of the three of them, and then horns, then demonic red eyes with slit pupils... It had fangs and tusks... It stood on two goat-like legs... But it grinned maliciously... Alyssa felt her palms sweating. A fiery crown appeared above its head and then blood dripped from Alyssa's eyes and nose on to the ground. It howled and then Alyssa soared high up before the pain overtook her. The horned, tusked, six armed demon stood on tall, displaying its dominance and power. But one feature really stood out to Owen, and without really understanding the irrelevance of what he was saying, Owen blurted out;

"Christ, you have a humongous penis..."

Alyssa brought speedily a kick down from above on the older demon but it laughed it off and grabbed Alyssa with two of its arms. The demon laughed as a third arm started to tear open her shirt. Alyssa struggled and kicked and cursed, trying to get free. She aimed her shin at his ribs and rocketed it into the demon with a sickening crack, but yet again, it did nothing. She swallowed and her heart raced...

Then a stone splintered into the demon's eye and blood erupted from the damaged socket. It dropped Alyssa in its rage and screamed, so Alyssa did the one sensible thing any person who refuses to be molested or killed in an order that varies in horribleness, and made sure she was no longer in the very vulnerable spot she occupied an instance ago.

It stared silently and ominously, rage building in its eyes and veins stood out on its face...

Owen smirked.

"Listen, ugly but gifted. You're lucky I'm drunk. Imagine what I would have hit sober. If you lay another hand on her, I'm personally going to fuck you. I will rip your gigantic dick off and fuck you with it." Owen taunted.

"Cheeky little shit." It snarled.

Owen tossed another rock at the monster but it caught it this time, and crumbled it inside his large fist. Alyssa flashed onto the fight and wrenched one arm back and aimed her flat palm at the joint. The demon howled at Alyssa, and she made sure not to repeat her earlier mistake, stepping just out of the airspace his fist closed around, too late to catch her. Using the momentary disorientation, Alyssa twisted and was now behind him, from where she pummelled a fist into the side of his knee which splintered against the force of the blow. The demon bellowed out a piercing shriek. He clutched his splintered joint with two good arms and Alyssa flitted back on the arm, and wrenched so hard it tore right out the socket. Morgan finished his sigil. He tapped his arm and suddenly sigils glowed on his skin. Morgan blasted an elbow into the demon's ribs, and he felt several actually collapse under his weight, but the demon grabbed Morgan and kicked his knee in. Morgan screamed in agony and Alyssa somersaulted and threw him out of harm's way. Morgan tapped different marks on the confusing and complex pattern below them and then it glowed. The demon brought down a speeding fist on Alyssa, but she charged forward and tackled the demon's legs out from under him. Owen dived onto the pattern and she flipped over the frantic pile of raging monster, just in time to disappear with them, and then they were gone.

The demon roared for the prey that just escaped.
