Josh's POV

Walking on the damp blades of grass in front of my new school, I look up from Instagram to spot a multicolored hair, the owner had her head held low slinking along the sidewalk. I could recognize her anywhere, it was Tyler's friend. Before I could think, and being widely curious, I run up to her.

"Hey! Aren't you Tyler's friend?"

Her head whips up and her eyes fog over, "Yeah, Melanie. And you're Josh."

"That would be me, " I study her silently, something's off, "Where's Tyler? If you go here, he probably goes here too."

She tugs at the stings of her backpack awkwardly, "He's not here, that's all you need to know. Anyways you barely know him. How do I know you won't hurt him?"

"Woah, woah, woah, Melanie slow it down. Why would I hurt Tyler, even if have just met him." I question, taken aback.

Suddenly angry, she crosses her arms firmly, and snaps at me, "Listen here, Josh. I don't care if you are all hot and perfect, or at least you act like it. Sometimes when people act fine, they aren't, and lie. Probably just like you. So, yeah, keep up your bad boy attitude, but no one's buying it, especially not me. Under no circumstances, will I let you near, Tyler. You're a bad influence, Josh. He doesn't want to be around you, and neither do I. So do us a favor, and leave us both alone."

Melanie's POV

Maybe I feel a bit guilty about yelling at him. He's innocent. I had no reason to do that. Maybe... I should talk to him and explain. After all, Tyler really does like him.

I reach out and grab his arm he turns to walk away from the conversation I ended, "Josh, wait I'm sorry. That was stupid. We need to talk."

For a second he looks puzzled, but after a moment he realizes I'm talking about Ty, "Oh okay, sure whatever you want to say."

I make small steps next to him and we casually walk down the campus pathways. Glancing up at the cloudy sky, I take a deep breath before preparing a short speech, "You know Tyler a bit , right?"

He nods.

"Well, he had a psychotic break yesterday night and he really hurt himself, and he fell and hit his head and lost some of his memory. And he's my best friend and I was the one who found him. I never will be able to forget that moment."

Without a seconds hesitation Josh envelopes me in a warm hug. He smelled slightly of wood and dust, but like in a pleasant way and a hint of cologne stains his black sweater. I needed this right now, I needed a hug.

I break down crying.

Hey, you hear the one about the fisherman who passed?

He didn't jump off that ledge ,

He just stepped out into the air ,

and pulled the ground up towards him really fast ,

Like he was pitching a line and went fishing for concrete.
