Chase stared at the empty seat next to him in class. Fighting the whimper that would creep up every time he thought about Patch not being at school. There was no one to watch during lunch. Tommy was a bit down. Students whispered behind his back. At least Amy would give him hugs out through the day to show she cared.
His last class of the day seem to be the worst of them all. Some guy moved over and tapped his arm. Chase bit back the growl from his wolf. The guy leaned in towards him. Chase had to keep his face straight as he smelled the cinnamon gum and cologne he was wearing. Smelled nothing like Patch.
“Hey, what did you do to get Patch to react that way?”
“Nothing, why do you ask?”
“Everyone’s talking, that’s all. Patch is a loner.”
“So, that doesn’t mean anything.”
“I heard what he did to this guy at some party. Almost killed the guy.”
Glancing towards the front of him, he noticed that two girls were listening in on the conversation between them. One glanced away and the other leaned over towards them. She smelled like fruit.
“Be careful Patch is a freak.”
“Freak?” Chase chocked back the growl. They were bad mouthing his mate. No one is going to sit there and speak ill of Patch. “What makes you say he’s a freak?”
“He doesn’t talk to people, only to Tommy. He walks around zombie faced. Did you not see what he did to Trent? Come on, the guy is a freak of nature.”
“A hot freak of nature,” the other girl giggled.
The girl and the guy who was speaking to him shot her a glance.
“He is. Ask Kara, his last girlfriend. She said that he’s an animal. Into the whole S&M, roll playing. She’s come to school with small bruises from their extra activities.”
The other girl laughed, “Kara did say he’s a freak alright. In all the right places.” She wiggled her eyebrows at them.
Chase shivered during the gross out moment. He really didn’t want to hear about Patch’s ex-girlfriend. Especially extra anything. The guy finally spoke up telling them two to shut it. They didn’t want to hear about how Patch’s sex life. Chase secretly thanked the guy, he was able to get them to shut up.
Tommy was walking with Jamie. She seem to be staring at him with love sick puppy eyes. Chase mouthed to her, asking if that was her mate. Her eyes beamed brightly back at him. That was all the answer he needed to see.
A frown formed on his face when he realized that Jamie would have a easier time getting her mate. Tommy was into the female race for one. For two, he seemed to be taking a liking to her as well. By the way he gently moved her along or the fact that he allowed her to hug him.
Finding Lucas wasn’t hard at all. With the number of wolves standing around him then the humans to boot. Lucas was in the middle of gossip and jealous females and males. The females smelled of lustful hormones. The males radiated with envy. It was like this at every school. Lucas and the other guys had always drawn a crowd around them.
As he approached the air grew silent. Dead give away guys. When someone approaches the conversation and then it’s cut off directly in mid-sentence. People know that you are talking about them.
“Hey bro,” Lucas smiled in a devilish way. “You and Patch are kicking up some gossip. Want to hear?” The eyes around him took glances at their peers. Apparently no one expecting Lucas to share the information on the spot.
