It wasn't until the 1900's the concept of depression and anxiety were noticed as diseases and not witch craft. However, it already was Death's tool for more souls to meet their early end. Meaning I had tons of paperwork at the office. It was so annoying.... there was a soul I noticed Emma. Her hour glass had a crack in it. So I knew what was happening another suicide and Death was approaching. I needed to stop it, before another great soul died a terrible death.
I arrived at the scene noticing Shinra standing over the teen arm extended to catch the child in her grip.
"Howdey Shinra, fancy meeting you here." I greeted her.
"Oh no. No no no no. You are not interfering with this one. She's mine no one loves her in this world anyway. Why would you like to see her suffer?" She inquired.
"I hate seeing people suffer she is hurt and I will heal her. Her time is not up." I answered.
She gave no response except her hand nearing Emma.
"You give me no choice! Creature of darkness stop and kneel before the power of light!" I demanded.
Instantly chains of light rose and bound her legs and her arms bound in cuffs. I touched the child and there was a smile on her face. She looked at the bridge that she once thought would be the end to her life and pains. Then she thought about her family and began to rethink her thoughts I whispered in her ear. Live child, you will do great things you need not live in pain any longer. Let the light of life guide you to a long and happy exoerience. With that she relaxed, turned and went home. With a snap of my fingers I undid Death's bindings.
"Chains, that's very kinky of you Richard." Shinra replied begrudgingly.
"Enough of your sass death! Besides that child did have someone. Her friends and family except her ass for a brain father that made Emma feel so awful. Death you should have claimed his soul instead." I said.
"Do you always have to ruin everything Life? Seriously everytime I do something you always have to counter it. God sometimes I just want you dead!" She yelled and charged at me.
"Well that's a sad choice. We used to be comrades!" I yelled at her, while evading her scythe.
"I was expecting you to attack me but now that you have a weapon allow me to pull out my own." I said with confidence.
I snapped my fingers and we both dropped into a garden death had no power here, her scythe harmless.
"What is this god awful place?" She asked in horror.
"This is the hanging gardens of Babylon. Some people see this place differently some call it Eden, some call it paradise and others call it Heaven. This would happen to be my room, it's beautiful is it not. Here is where you were born. I remember that you hated killing innocent people and enjoyed making the bad suffer. Pity for the weak and pleasuere in punishment of the guilty... It must be hard for your young mind to grasp as Death only changes in variety every so often and Life matures faster. However, we are the same age in a sense. Meaning under this knowledge you should understand that we both have jobs to do mine is to protect lives yours is to put the period at then end of the sentence." I told her.
"You know as well as I do how humanity has gone down the drain before the plague even hit." Death replied.
"It was but there were so many good people too. People you killed, and their hour glasses shattered with sand still pouring to the bottom. I had to save them the benefits outweighed the costs." I retorted.
"These "benefits" are now one of the many idiots have to offer. We are in 2016 now and look! People refuse to educate themselves, women and minorities are treated like scum still but in more discreet ways. Not to mention morality and natural selection has gone straight out the window. These humans were not like the ones millenia ago. Intelligent, resourceful capable of remorse an-"
"Were you not capable of all these things before you started taking pleasure in killing everything you saw? We used to be allies Death working together. Now all you have become is no better than the humans. However I have hope, in humanity and you. You will find the proper choice. After all I know you still have the good nature you had when you were born. You just don't want to show it because I finally had to oppose you. And because I had to correct you, you turned around and made murder sprees happen. If you had just let me do my job it would have made our jobs easier." I interjected.
"Oh? Says mister let's have everyone fuck each other because life is so immaculate and pure. When in reality some people suffer because of you. Some people were not meant to exist but do because you said so. People get born into shitty households because of you some get left for dead. You talk about mercy, I am mercy. They suffer I end it." She said as she swung at me again.
The words stung after all we both knew that it indeed is true.
"Do you think my job is any easier? All the time I am told to save people from you even if they aren't so righteous. Trust me it pains me to keep the wicked alive. You know what if you want to decay with your mercy and pin all the blame on me fine. Here take your imaginary friend and leave me be!" I yelled as I snapped my fingers making Hades senpai an actual entity.
"Just know that we both have done wrongs to this world... the both of us and while you think everything can be achieved through death, remember it is the hope that things change that keep us existing." I said as I left for heaven. I told Jesus only give me the deceased that are righteous I am not putting anymore people on the planet if death wants to say it's all my fault. And so the world bore no more fruit of life. The last baby was born the last crops were harvested and humanity will spiral out of control.
