A woman made her way up to the stand, her teal green eyes downcast. She had long honey blonde hair that fell down to her waist in delicate curls. She had a light green dress on that reached her knees and white boots with heels that could kill. Who knew people wore things that sharp?
"Please state your name and occupation, witness," the judge instructed.
"My name is Lilac Starr. I work as the head of the technology company Starr Tech," the woman answered.
"Wasn't Starr the name of the one of the disappeared?!" gasped Gramps.
"Yes... The four missing people... They're my children..." Starr told him, looking down sadly.
"Wait... Since when does Chrysalis have parents?" I heard Yuri whisper to Graye.
"I'm pretty sure everybody does..." Graye whispered back. My grip on the prosecution bench tightened as I thought of... Him...
"But I've never heard her or Mr. Morix mention Chrysalis' mom or their dad. Weird, right?" Yuri continued to say. I flinched a little at hearing 'dad'. Why did I have to be reminded now of all times...?!
"What about the witness gives her testimony about what she knows regarding the disappearances?" I cut in, not wanting to hear them talk about families any longer.
"Let's go on with that," the judge agreed.
WITNESS TESTIMONY: LILAC STARR- ABOUT MY KIDS
-I don't have many ideas as to why anybody would want them gone...
-My kids aren't involved with anything too huge that could get them... Like this...
-I didn't even know two of them well, since they're only related to me through my husband...
-But I still don't know any reason why they'd need to disappear! I just want them to come home!
-Though I can think of one little connection between them all to cause this sort of thing...
"Defense, if you would please, begin your cross-examination," the judge said.
"I'll be doing that," Graye nodded.
CROSS-EXAMINATION: LILAC STARR- ABOUT MY KIDS
-I don't have many ideas as to why anybody would want them gone...
-My kids aren't involved with anything too huge that could get them... Like this...
-I didn't even know two of them well, since they're only related to me through my husband...
-But I still don't know any reason why they'd need to disappear! I just want them to come home!
-Though I can think of one little connection between them all to cause this sort of thing...
"HOLD IT!"
"What is this connection you can think of, witness?" Graye asked, frowning.
"All of them were legal figures. Cotoli and Pieter were attorneys, Sora a prosecutor, and Chrysalis was a legal assistant," Starr replied. "Other than that, there wasn't much of a link between them all."
"Well that's a lie," Yuri muttered, rolling her eyes. "She's more clueless than that one girl from that one movie."
"Because that's so specific," Graye muttered, rolling her eyes.
"I'm still doing better than the witness, so give me your points," Yuri hold her.
"If the defense is done, what exactly does this prove?" I asked, raising an eyebrow suspiciously. "I don't see anything of distinct importance."
"Legal figures. That's the important fact about this case for us to remember," Graye told me. "That could have something of significant importance."
"How does this matter? I don't understand," I sighed. "If you would please, stop speaking riddles and talk like a normal person."
"The defense requests a background check on the defendant to see if she is at all involved with legal activity. If not, we will know that there was no real motive for her to kidnap the disappeared people," Graye explained.
"Bailiff! Get the background check on the defendant done immediately!" the judge yelled.
A bailiff with purple hair (who I've noticed is rather popular) saluted and ran from the room, yelling something like 'siiiiiiiiiiiiiiir' as he did so. I blinked in confusion. Bailiffs always were a cooky crowd.
"So that's the only link that you can think of between the disappeared people? That they were all legal figures?" I asked the witness. "Was there any case that any of them were involved in? It could have some influence in their sudden disappearances."
"I can't think of anything like that," Starr answered, shaking her head.
"OBJECTION!"
I looked around in confusion for a few seconds, not understanding who had objected. My eyes eventually settled on Yuri, who was pointing like a real lawyer. I bet that she has a future in that. "The witness has that wrong! There is a case all of them were involved in!" Yuri yelled.
"What is said case? And why didn't I hear about it?!" I yelled, turning around and punching the wall behind the bench in anger. It's a habit of mine. It relieves stress through what I like to call punching therapy.
"GC-9," Yuri answered. "It was a while ago, but Mr. Morix was the lawyer. Prosecutor Lin and Chrysalis were attacked during it and Pieter was Chrysalis' unofficial babysitter. How is that for a link, clueless excuse of a witness?"
"Don't be so mean," Graye whispered to her, though I could tell that she agreed with Yuri's insult.
"Would you please inform the court of the details of that case? I forgot it in my aging years and it appears that... Most people don't understand what it is you're talking about," the judge told Yuri, who nodded.
"It was a while ago and all of the disappeared were involved in GC-9. That's the first time that all of them were together and as far as I know, the last time that they've done it on a case," Yuri began to say.
"So this is the main possibility about why they were kidnapped?" the judge asked.
"It's the only one I can think of, and I've been working with them for years," Yuri replied, looking a bit too proud of herself.
"We got the background check on the defendant finished and the results are in!"
