Quick note!!
Yes, I already know that Tenniswood is married to Vito in this book, but because the Wood Quintet will be making more appearances than just as Nevada and Nicoletta, I have to call Tenniswood Tenniswood. Please do not come at me for this!!

I watched Mr. Jett come running into the courtroom from my seat in the gallery. Lily was next to me, squeezing my hand for support in this dark moment.
"The background check on the defendant tells us that she, as a matter of fact, has never been involved with any legal activity!" Mr. Jett exclaimed.
"Seriously?" Vito asked, raising an eyebrow. "No legal activity? Seriously nothing?"
"Nothing. She wasn't even involved in the legal world, so that means that there isn't any reason to kidnap them all. Since all of them were legal figures and that's their main link, there isn't any motive for the defendant," Mr. Jett replied.
"OBJECTION!"
"What about the GC-9 Incident mentioned by the defense team earlier?" Vito frowned.
"OBJECTION!"
"Listen, Vito," Yuri began. "I was involved in that case, and since I wasn't taken and nor were the rest of the people involved in the case, then that can't be related."
"OBJECTION!"
"What if she took them all for separate reasons, not knowing that they were siblings?" Vito asked.
"OBJECTION!"
"I did a check on the defendant and all of the kidnapped people. They had never even met," Victoria said.
"So... There really isn't any reason for the defendant to have kidnapped the disappeared?" Vito questioned, going pale in the face.
"Not at all. But the defendant did mention that she was conducting an investigation on the disappeared people and where they ran off to," Victoria told him. "Why don't we call her to the stand to tell us what sort of progress she's made thus far in her investigation?"
"That isn't a bad idea..." Vito muttered. "The prosecution calls the defendant to the witness stand."
I watched Ms. Kimura make her way up to the witness stand, gulping as she did so. "Before you ask... My name is Delaney Kimura. I'm a detective in training, and as of late, investigating the disappearances in hopes of getting my badge," Ms. Kimura declared.
"I didn't ask for your whole life story, witness," Vito snarled, eyes going narrow. "Just tell us what you found out about the case."
"Okay... I can do that..." Ms. Kimura whispered.
WITNESS TESTIMONY: DELANEY KIMURA- MY INVESTIGATION'S RESULTS
-Well... I started investigating the case as soon as I heard about it.
-That's why my prints were on all of the notes.
-I discovered that the notes came in black envelopes with small maps, each marked with a blue dot at an unknown address.
-Since this was so well planned out, I've come to the sad conclusion...
-...That the disappeared ran away of their own free will.
Lily's grip on my hand went tighter, making me flinch. I turned to face her, an expression of shock on my face. They left of their own accord?! How could they do this?! They left us all behind by choice?!
Victoria didn't appear to be taking the news any better than I was. She was gripping the defense bench as her shoulders shook ever so slightly. Even Yuri looked somewhat downcast, muttering something about Venus under her breath.
Eventually, both of their voices came into focus for my well honed ears. "V-Venus would want me to keep them safe... I let her down..." Yuri whispered, her voice cracking as she allowed a few tears to slip from her eyes and onto the bench before her.
"Pieter... He did this... By choice...? Left me... By choice...?!" Victoria whispered, a sinister sense of despair pulling at her vocal chords.
"The defense appears to be in shock at hearing this," the judge commented, barely any sympathy in his tone. "Would they... Be alright with beginning the cross-examination of the witness' testimony now?"
Victoria hesitated before providing him with a response. "Y-yes... We're... We're ready for it," she said, though I could tell that she was lying.
"Then get on with it," Vito told her. I made a mental note to remind him to back off the intensity once in a while when I got home.
CROSS-EXAMINATION: DELANEY KIMURA- MY INVESTIGATION'S RESULTS
"HOLD IT!"
"What makes you so sure that this is what happened?" Victoria asked. "Do you have any proof that they left of their own decision, witness?"
"Well... Most of them, Mr. Morix, Mr. Fury, and Ms. Bespoke, were all rather mighty in stature. Because of this, they would be hard to fight off if somebody were to abduct them," Ms. Kimura said.
"That's not definitive proof that they left of their own will!" Victoria yelled, anger forcing her to be louder.
"Then what about the fact that their final note was so well thought out?" Ms. Kimura asked. "The wording was a tad bit strange, and since the envelopes were black, a rare occurrence, and a map was included, I think that they had been planning this out for a while."
"They'd been planning to leave...?!" Yuri gasped. "B-but why would they do that?! I don't understand!!"
"I suspect that there was some psychological thing or a person that scared them so much that they felt the need to run," Ms. Kimura replied.
I turned to face Lily, whispering into her ear. "Do you think it has to do with the project?"
"That's the only thing I can think of. But I bet that this is just a prolonged PX-6! They'll be home in no time!!" Lily said back, though I could tell it was forced since there was fear hiding in her voice.
"You do remember what happened in that case, right?" I asked, frowning.
Lily chose not to provide a reply.
"Back to the case at hand, why do you think that the disappeared felt the need to run away from their previous lives?" the judge questioned.
"I... I never found that out, but it would have to be something pretty scary, like maybe a group of mad assassins or something like that," Ms. Kimura joked.
I did not find that joke funny.
