I walk inside my home, greeted with the warm smell of dinner.
"Hi honey, how was school?" My mom asks from the kitchen as she's cooking
"The usual."
My mom noticed the bags I'm holding.
"Christina took you shopping, again?"
I sigh dropping the bags near my feet, relieving the tension from my shoulders.
"I wouldn't call it a normal day of shopping. More like torture."
Mom chuckles as she lays out food on the table. "ANDREW! CALEB! Come for dinner!"
Andrew's my dad; he works for the government. My mom just stays at home.
As we all sit down at the table, silence grows over us. We eat in silence for a while. It's not normally like this, meaning that there's some news.
"So um... We have some news to tell you..." My mom speaks up, breaking the tension in the room.
Caleb looks up from his dish. "We?"
"Um yeah... Your father and I will be going on a trip."
I raise my brows slightly. "What trip?"
"Just a regular short one." My dad fills in. I frown in confusion.
"So how is that news?"
"Uh... Because- well we're not sure if you're going to like this... But your father has been given a job promotion."
If my dad has been given a promotion, it could mean that we'll be moving. Moving away from friends, my school and everything I love.
"No don't you say that-"
My dad interrupts. "No dear, we haven't confirmed whether we will be moving... But we are considering it..."
Caleb and I strike our heads up in sync. "No." Our speech is also in sync.
"But if you could consider the position your father-" I interrupt my mom.
"Mom I'm sorry I know you're happy about this promotion... We are too... Well I am but that doesn't always mean we have to move."
"But Bea, dear-"
"No mom," I stand up from my seat abruptly, "I'm sorry but I don't want to move. I'm happy for your promotion, I really am. But I won't move." What I said came out more as a yell and louder than I wanted it to be. I just shouted at my parents. Silence grows over us, soon becoming an awkward moment.
"Thanks for dinner, mom. I'm going out for a walk... I'll be back soon."
