"You will not give up on me now, Pelops! You push yourself! You have two more laps, give me your all! Do not slow down!"
I come up for air and hear snippets of this from my coach. I push my arms as hard as I can, and kick the water with my feet. I can feel my goggles being plastered onto my face, and I know I'll have red lines around my eyes for at least an hour. I come up for air again, and have to force myself not to look behind me to see where my opponent is. You can lose precious time doing that.
I hit the wall one last time, and surface for air. I gulp in as much as possible and shove my goggles off onto my forehead. I hear water splashing to my left and look over to see my best friend, Andrew just surfacing. It looks like I beat him by quite a considerable bit. Probably around a half a second.
Andrew and I are the best two guy swimmers on our team. It's weird competing since we're best friends. But the good thing is we only compete in practice. In actual competetions we compete against others.
"Nice," Andrew says after he throws his goggles out of the pool.
I grin, "Jealous, much?"
He rolls his eyes, "Whatever, dude."
I pull myself out of the pool, and my coach walks over. "Nicely done, guys. Go take a break guys. Karen, Nora, warm up!"
I grab a towel off the rack, and Poseidon throws me a thumbs up. "That was your personal best, Pelops. Good job."
I nod and toss my neon green goggles into my swim bag. I towel off my hair, and go to sit next to Andrew on the bench. He's typing on his phone and I look over at the screen.
"Texting Angie?" I ask with a sly smirk.
He hits send, "Shut up."
I laugh, "Do you loveeee her?"
He narrows his eyes at me, "Do you want to go back in that pool?"
I snicker, "You wish you were strong enough for that."
He stands up in a menacing stance, and I can tell he's about to try when someone clears their throat behind him.
Andrew turns around, revealing a woman dressed totally in red, and wearing a killer pair of heels. I stare at her in complete bewilderment until she sticks out a hand for me to shake, "Pelops, I presume? You look just like your father."
I glance over at Andrew and he just shrugs. I shake her hand and then quickly retract it. "You knew my father?" I ask. As far as I know, I've never met him. And if I ever had, I don't remember it.
The woman glances over at Andrew, "Yes, I did. Could we talk in private?"
Andrew throws his hands up, "Whatever, lady. Pelops, lemme know when you're done and we'll grab something to eat, bro."
I nod and he walks away to watch the girls swim. I turn back to the lady, who is now sitting in Andrew's seat.
I raise an eyebrow at her, and gesture for her to speak.
