"What do you mean?" My hands become clammy, and my heart pounds fast, too fast, way too fast. I think I might be dying, oh wait no, I'm immortal. But why, back to the question, what does he mean, "why"? I just am.
He shakes his head, "Demigods aren't supposed to be immortal. We aren't immortal unless immortality is bestowed to us."
I interrupt him, "But you-"
He nods, "I know, I'm immortal. That's because Zeus decided he didn't want my punishment to just end when my life was over. He wanted to keep torturing me for eternity. It's funny how some people searched their entire lives for immortality, and I would have given anything not to get it."
He keeps going, "On top of that, I married a human. You are barely god at all. Like a quarter. Which begs the question, how in the world are you immortal?"
I freeze, my insides begin to turn to icicles. Frost begins to weave it's way around my heart, effectively chilling it. I had never thought about it before, never had any reason to question it. I was immortal, and that was really just the end of it. Until now, I'd never realized there was anything wrong. That maybe I wasn't supposed to be immortal.
I gulp, "I have no idea."

I tap my fingers on the seat as I wait for Aaron. I am a curious person by nature, so the fact that I have absolutely no idea what is going on is killing me.
The car beeps, unlocking and I turn around in my seat to see Aaron walking towards the car, keys in hand. I buckle up as he slides in and have to force myself not to ask questions.
This works for about twenty seconds before I clear my throat.
"So...?" I trail off, my question being pretty obvious.
He starts the car and pulls out of the park, but he doesn't turn the direction to go back to my house. "It was fine. I think you were right. He said he never meant to hurt me. I expected him to be a lot crazier than he was, though. I mean, how can you be that sane after you've been in that room for hundreds of years?"
I shift in the seat. I'm glad that it seems like they might be patching things up. "I don't know. Maybe he clung to one thing-wanting to find you and show you the truth- and the drive for that was the only thing that kept him from going mad. Also, where are we going?"
